A Multi-dimensional Analysis Of The Euphemism Modal Adverb "Hao Xiang(好像)"

This article selects euphemism modal adverb "hao xiang(好像)" as the research object.On the basis of extensive data collection and comprehensive study of previous research results,the euphemism adverb usage of this word is sorted out and studied.The article is divided into six chapters.In the first chapter,the writer describes the reason,research status,research significance and research methods of the topic.The second chapter studies the semantic expression of euphemism adverb "hao xiang(好像)".The semantic feature is that the semantic meaning of euphemism adverb"hao xiang(好像)" disappears in the sentence,and whether it appears or not doesn’t affect the truth-value condition of utterance.It can be divided into three kinds of semantics,one is deterministic euphemism,the other is uncertain euphemism,and the third is negative euphemism semantics.The third chapter probes into the syntactic expression of euphemism adverb "hao xiang(好像)".Sentence features are analyzed from two aspects:syntactic position and sentence class distribution.Syntactic position is flexible,it can be placed at the beginning of a sentence to modify the whole sentence,mostly it is placed in the middle of the sentence,modify the predicate of the sentence,also it can be placed at the end of the sentence,it tends to be the periphery of the sentence.In the sentence distribution,the euphemism modal adverb "hao xiang(好像)" can appear in the interrogative and declarative and imperative sentence,but don’t appear in the exclamatory sentence.The fourth chapter focuses on the pragmatic effect of euphemism modal adverb"hao xiang(好像)" from three aspects:the relationship with pragmatic principles,the stylistic preference and the pragmatic effect.Firstly,to some extent,the use of euphemistic modal adverb "hao xiang(好像)" violates the cooperation principle,which mainly violates the qualitative principle and the mode principle.However,the violation of the cooperation principle is just order to follow the politeness principle,which can implicitly express their true meaning and make the discourse appropriate.Secondly,euphemistic modal adverb "hao xiang(好像)" tends to be inclined to appear in oral language,which has a stylistic shift.Lastly,The pragmatic effect can be summarized as discourse organization,discourse cohesion,error reduction,subjective evaluation.The fifth chapter examines the use of "hao xiang(好像)" from diachronic perspective.It goes to explain the evolution from verb to euphemism modal adverb of"hao xiang(好像)",which has gone through five stages,namely,from the first stage of the figurative verbal phrase to the second stage of the figurative verbal,to the third stage of the figurative adverb,and then to the fourth stage of the figurative modal adverb.and to the stage of the euphemism modal adverbs.and then the writer explains the reason of its development and evolution,including vocabulary,syntactic position,subjective and pragmatic principle of interaction.The sixth chapter is the conclusion.Summarizing the main points of this paper and putting forward the research prospect.
