Cause Analysis Of The Errors And Omissions In Chinese-English Whispered Interpreting And Coping Strategies

With increasing economic,trade and cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries,the market demand of various interpreting services grows accordingly.As a branch of simultaneous interpreting,whispered interpreting enjoys certain popularity and market demand,featuring the advantage of efficiency,economy and convenience when the number of users is limited.Just like any other kind of interpreting,affected by different factors,issues such as errors,omission,and disfluency become common occurrence.Based on the author’s Chinese-English whispered interpreting practice,the paper addresses the background,characteristics,preparation,process and performance of the task,analyzes typical errors and omission,and aims to explore the causes of errors and omissions in Chinese-English whispered interpreting and coping strategies.By analysis of examples,the paper finds the causes of errors and omissions,including processing capacity limitations,lack of thematic and professional knowledge,inadequate linguistic competence,and non-intellectual factors.With regard to the causes,the paper proposed some corresponding strategies,which consist of summarization and compression,well-rounded knowledge acquisition,enhancing bilingual proficiency,and field interpreting practice.The author hopes that this practical report could serve as a reference and material for the study and better performance of whispered interpreting in the future.
