With the development of the globalization,China and other countries in the world are increasingly strengthening cultural exchanges.Subtitle translation plays an indispensable role in foreign films and TV serials.Good subtitle translation can help make audiences have a better understanding of plots and also stimulate them to watch movies and TV series,which can help achieve a huge box-office success.The most fundamental principle in subtitle translation is to make the target audience understand original texts accurately within the limited time and space.For the sake of improving the acceptability of the target audience,translators should take the uniqueness of the subtitle translation into consideration.In doing so,the translation can be easily understood.Using the theory of the Skopos Theory as its interpretive framework,this thesis probes into the subtitle translation of the film King’s Speech.As we all know,three basic rules of the Skopos Theory are the skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule.Subtitle translation is a purposeful activity in accordance with the Skopos Theory.As a consequence,the skopos rule acts as the primary rule for the translation.The author grasps cultural connotation hidden in the subtitle translation by analyzing plenty of examples from this film,which can help classify the subtitle translation strategies.In addition,three principles and translation strategies are the major focuses of the thesis.These translation strategies consist of foreignization,domestication,annotation,addition,omission and adaptation.All these can be beneficial to further study in this field.
