The Film Subtitle Translation From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

With the deepening of economic globalization, intercultural communication has increasingly boomed. Meanwhile, accompanied by the development of multimedia technology, films have played an indispensable role in intercultural communication. Therefore, it is obvious that the film subtitle translation should be placed in a higher position.The excellent film subtitle translation not only helps foreign audiences enjoy films, but has them know more about the culture of other counties. This paper introduces the definition and characters of film subtitles, and discuss the definition and characters of the film subtitle translation by setting a number of examples.Based on the Skopos Theory and its three basic rules as the skopos rule, the coherence role and the fidelity rule, this paper mainly discusses the application of translation strategies and of these three basic rules of the Skopes Theory in the film— Black Coal, Thin Ice. In this way, the paper draws a conclusion from the perspective of the Skopos Theory:the film subtitle translation is aimed at helping audiences trespass the language barrier to enjoy films by building a bridge of intercultural communication.In addition, this paper, from the perspective of the Skopos Theory, focuses on the translation strategies adopted in this film including domestication, foreignization, omission, addition, adaptation, and conversion. By analyzing the examples, this paper arrives at a conclusion that the application of translation strategies in the film subtitle translation is based on the language custom, thinking mode and expression mode between different languages and is aimed at helping audiences trespass the language barrier to enjoy films by building a bridge of intercultural communication. Meanwhile, this paper makes a certain contribution to the research of the contemporary film subtitle translation.
