In Korean history, there are much parts that cannot be discussed without mentioning the existence of China. There are many common parts in various field including economy, politics and culture however, explaining with the realistic bases,it is fact that Korea have been impacted from China since past ancient countries until Republic of Korea of now.Since long ago,Korea and China, both countries have been hold special relationship and develop mutual exchanges.Like mentioned previously,China is matter that cannot be omitted from Korean history. It sure is as same as in the art field that I am going to research. As can seen in the published literatures and thesis materials,it is fact that the ancient Chinese landscape paintings has been affect to the ancient Korean landscape paintings. The evidence or piece of landscape paintings before Joseon dynasty is mere however, the effect from the ancient Chinese landscape paintings can be found in the well-preserved landscape paintings of Joseon. In this research,I am going to study about the relationship of landscape paintings of South Sung of China and the one of early Joseon.Previously,at the time I took the Chinese paining theory in my college,I had chance to see the landscape paining of South Sung of China. There was a very impressive piece that is Kyesanchundwondo by Hagyu.I only had glance of that piece in class very shortly yet the impression was strong. However, the class focused on the overall frame of landscape paintings of South Sung so I was not able to learn in detail about who Hagyu is and what Kyesanchungwondo is.Of course,I had no way to know the composition, drawing technique or philosophy in the piece as well. That became one of the motivation to study abroad to China after the college graduation in Korea and it is fact that I started to have more interest in Chinese landscape paintings.By analyzing and study ‘Kyesan Chungwondon’ of Hagyu,on the basis of that,I am going to find out the effect to the early Joseon landscape paintings, the unique distinct characteristics that the landscape paintings of Joseon have later and what meaning has it in the modern Korean landscape paintings.Lastly,I will conclude the fact that I found out through this thesis research with the graduation piece.
