Objective: temporal horn hydrocephalus is a common complication after lateral ventricle tumor surgery, especially in the trigone region of lateral ventricle. There are few reports on the risk factors of temporal horn hydrocephalus after lateral ventricle tumor surgery. In this paper,we analyzed the factors that may cause temporal horn hydrocephalus after surgical treatment of lateral ventricle tumors,in order to find the related risk factors. Methods: the clinical data of 86 patients with lateral ventricle tumors treated in the Department of Neurosurgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from January 2015 to June 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. Results: among 86 cases,32 cases(37.20%)developed hydrocephalus in temporal horn after operation.Univariate analysis showed that tumor pathological grade, postoperative intraventricular hematocele, postoperative intracranial infection, postoperative intraventricular drainage tube indwelling time(> 4 days)and other factors caused more obvious temporal horn hydrocephalus.Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that postoperative intraventricular hematocele(OR: 6.727,P=0.007),postoperative intracranial infection(OR: 15.846,P=0.001)and postoperative external ventricular drainage tube placement time > 4 days(OR: 3.872,P=0.048)were independent risk factors for postoperative temporal horn hydrocephalus. Conclusion: temporal horn hydrocephalus is a common complication after lateral ventricle tumor resection. The destruction and injury of ventricular wall structure during tumor resection can cause temporal horn hydrocephalus.Postoperative intraventricular hematocele, postoperative intracranial infection, postoperative placement time of external ventricular drainage tube are related to the occurrence of postoperative temporal horn hydrocephalus. The placement of external ventricular drainage tube after lateral ventricular tumor surgery should be individualized according to the patient’s intraoperative situation. If the patient’s postoperative condition can be early extubation of the external drainage tube, can prevent a large number of cerebrospinal fluid loss and ventricular wall structure change, prevent the triangle area brain tissue adhesion, can reduce the occurrence of temporal horn hydrocephalus.
