Research On Wu Gengmin’s Practice And Thoughts Of Horticulture

As a master of horticulture,Gengmin Wu is a famous horticulturalist,horticulture practitioner and horticulture educator in China,and one of the founders and pioneers of modern horticulture in China.His growth experience is closely related to the development of horticulture in China.This paper analyzes Wu’s horticulture thoughts by analyzing his horticulture practice.In the main body of the thesis,three chapters are systematic analysis of Wu’s academic practice in his whole life,and the last chapter is a summary of Wu’s horticulture thoughts.This paper provides some basis for understanding the development of modern and contemporary horticulture in China.The introduction part mainly introduces the significance,purpose,method,review and innovation of this paper.The first chapter mainly introduces Wu’s academic experience.This chapter briefly sorts out his life story mainly from three aspects: Wu’s road to study,study abroad,and teaching and research.It not only lays the groundwork for a comprehensive grasp of his thoughts,but also provides a theoretical basis for us to understand the transformation of modern horticulture in China.The second chapter mainly studies Wu’s practice of olericulture.This chapter focuses on the study of Wu’s practice of olericulture before 1957,especially the analysis of how Gengmin Wu promoted the development of olericulture in the context of the introduction of foreign excellent varieties and the investigation of domestic germplasm resources.This chapter also analyzes Wu’s thought and its influence at that time by combining some of his works on vegetable cultivation technology.This chapter studies Wu’s practice of olericulture to understand the development course of olericulture in modern China.The third chapter mainly studies the Wu’s practice of pomology.This chapter focuses on his studies in the pruning,classification and naming of fruit trees.Gengmin Wu is particularly good at pomology pruning.This paper focuses on the pruning technology of Gengmin Wu and the development course of pomology pruning.Gengmin Wu did a lot of research on the taxonomy of pomology.Through the study of his thoughts on the taxonomy of pomology,we can understand the key point of the development of the taxonomy of pomology in modern China.Similarly,through Wu’s research on the naming of pomology,we can also understand the significance of naming fruit trees for the development of pomology.Finally,through the study of Wu’s practice of pomology,in order to achieve a comprehensive understanding of modern pomology development course.The fourth chapter mainly studies Wu’s contribution to horticulture.This chapter mainly analyzes and sorts out his thoughts and influences on the construction of horticulture discipline from four aspects: he participated in the establishment of the earliest horticulture departments,the compilation of the earliest textbooks,the establishment of the Chinese Society of Horticulture,and the establishment of the earliest specialized horticulture experimental institution independently established by the provincial level in China.The fifth chapter mainly summarizes Wu’s horticulture thoughts.Gengmin Wu beginning in 1920,engaged in the teaching of gardening,until the early 1990 s,its always starting from the practice,summarizes the related theory,gradually formed its unique ideological system: the thought about transplanting plants in different areas the thought of caring for reality and the thought of integrating teaching,research and practice.In conclusion,it is clear that Gengmin Wu is a worthy founder and pioneer of modern horticulture in China.This paper aims to prove Wu’s founding position in Chinese horticulture cause by combing his contribution in olericulture,pomology and horticulture discipline construction,and analyzing his horticulture thoughts.
