Study On Streets’ Walkability Optimization Strategy Of Shaocheng District Of Chengdu Based On Environmental Behavior Theory

With the development of urban modernization,the pattern of wide roads and large blocks has caused systematic damage to the traditional urban street pattern,leading to a series of traffic jams,social life and other problems.According to the Outline of the "13th Five-Year Plan",Chengdu has put forward the planning concept of small street areas,taking the construction of small blocks as the main strategy of urban development,advocating the return of street space to pedestrians and stimulating more vitality of urban streets,so as to solve urban problems.Based on this policy background,this paper takes the street space in Chengdu Shaocheng District as the object of its practical research,analyzes the existing phenomena in the street space in Chengdu Shaocheng District and the influencing factors of pedestrian friendliness through all-round investigation,and puts forward the optimization strategies for the pedestrian friendliness of the street space in Chengdu Shaocheng District.This paper carries out research from the following four aspects:Firstly,the theory of environmental behavior and walkability is comprehensively summarized.It is concluded that the environmental behavior theory can be applied in this study mainly from three aspects:environmental behavior relations,behavioral needs and activity characteristics;Summarize the theories,methods and excellent cases of walking friendliness.Then,according to the correlation and intersection between the two,the research ideas and strategy construction principles of this paper are determined,that is,the four dimensions of building street pedestrian friendliness are safety,interactivity,comfort and attraction.Secondly,it conducts a comprehensive investigation and research on the physical environment,users’ activities and perceptual cognition of the neighborhoods,and makes a comparative study between the neighborhoods and related types.After analyzing the characteristics of street environment in Shaocheng district,the advantages and disadvantages of pedestrian-friendly streets in Shaocheng district are obtained.The advantages include a long history of spatial pattern,pleasant scale,strong living atmosphere,rich gray space for street reconstruction,etc.,while the disadvantages include some streets with messy landscape,insufficient facilities,and car-oriented streets.After the attribution analysis of pedestrian behavior characteristics and pedestrian friendliness factors,it is concluded that the restrictive factors in the construction of pedestrian friendliness dimension are as follows: lack of continuity in the aspect of safety,lack of safety facilities;In the aspect of interaction,there is no interactive space and continuous space has no rhythmic change.Comfortable space design without details,landscape facilities are not perfect;Attractive aspects of the existing small city culture excavation is not enough,the lack of experiential activities.Finally,according to the above constraints on pedestrian friendliness,this paper puts forward optimization strategies on four levels of street safety,interactivity,comfort and attraction in the Shaocheng block.In terms of safety,the continuity of walking space and the safety of road facilities should be strengthened to form a clear domain confirmation;In terms of interaction,functional partitions should be combined to introduce dynamic contacts.In terms of comfort,street space should be subdivided and landscape should be added.In terms of attraction,local characteristics should be effectively utilized and retained instead of being limited by the traditional image building of the area.
