Guilin is located in the Xiangli Karst Valley where The Lijiang River,Luoqing River and Xiangjiang River coexist in the south of the Nanling Mountain.The special natural geographical location determines Guilin’s dangerous military position different from other cities in the south of Nanling Mountain.In Qin Dynasty,the Ling Canal connecting the Lijiang River and Xiangjiang River was excavated here for military purposes.The Xiangsi Canal connecting the Lijiang River and Luoqing River was built in Tang Dynasty,perfecting the waterway transportation network in Guilin.Soon after,a water conservancy system for military defense was constructed outside the Guilin City.In different historical periods,the regional water conservancy system of Guilin had gradually formed through water conservancy construction combined with natural water systems and also had promoted the development of agriculture,the formation of settlements and the construction of landscapes in Guilin.The water conservancy project with shipping as its main function established the pattern of Guilin’s regional landscape.Lingqu Canal and Xiangsi Canal promoted the development of the settlement system.The construction of water conservancy projects in Guilin city had enriched the construction of the landscape system.The construction of small-scale water conservancy irrigation projects promoted the construction of farmland systems.Under the excellent natural base of Guilin,the Regional Landscape of Guilin under the influence of the regional water conservancy system had been formed.However,with the rapid development of urbanization and the construction of modern water conservancy since modern times,the original regional landscape has been impacted to a certain extent.The original water conservancy system,farmland system,countryside system and landscape system are gradually destroyed,but the regional water conservancy system is still an important factor affecting the future development of the Regional Landscape of Guilin.Through the records in ancient books and the specialized research in academic monographs,the various elements of the regional landscape are integrated vertically in time,and the types are compared horizontally.Combined with on-site investigate,overlaying and analyzing historical survey and satellite images,the spatial positioning of regional landscape elements can be realized.Based on these,the evolution of Regional Landscape of Guilin can be speculated and the composition can also be analyzed,and then the influence of modern urban development on the regional landscape can be discussed.In addition,visualized image data can be drawn to improve the readability of research.The construction of the regional water conservancy system plays an important role in promoting the development of the Regional Landscape of Guilin.By combing the construction process and significance of the ancient Guilin regional water conservancy system,the formation and development of the Regional Landscape of Guilin under the influence of the regional water conservancy system can be discussed.It can make up for the gaps in the study of the regional landscape in the south of the Nanling Mountain and discover the uniqueness of the Regional Landscape of Guilin in space and time,which can provide a reference for future urban construction in Guilin and create a harmonious living environment.
