“City”and“moat”are the fortresses of ancient traditional cities.Ancient fortifications were mostly for the public safety of a city,not only to defend against war intrusion,but also to resist natural disasters such as floods.It contains the ideas of the builders behind it,which to a large extent is a symbol of the spirit and power of the ruling class.Due to the special geographical location of Suzhou,its city is closely connected with the surrounding rivers and lakes,forming an organic system.It not only represents the ideals of the ruling class,but also reflects the lifestyle of generations of people living in symbiosis with the city and water.As the last dynasty of feudal society,the Qing Dynasty had a historical background different from the previous dynasties:the development of the commodity economy,the changes in the social atmosphere in the south of the Yangtze River,and frequent wars during the collapse of the feudal system.In this context,many changes have taken place in both the city system and the public space that carries the public activities of the citizens.As a result,a close interactive relationship has occurred between the two.This interactive relationship records the political economy and the political economy at that time.Changes in society and changes in people’s life footprints.This article selects the city of Suzhou in the Qing Dynasty as the research object,and uses methods such as literature research,poetry and painting argumentation,and comparative argumentation to sort out the development of the Suzhou city system and public space in the Qing Dynasty.The former influences the latter,and The effect of the latter on the former is to explain the interactive relationship between the two,and found that the formation of this interactive relationship was brought about by the mutual influence between political economy and social factors at that time.It is hoped that this kind of perspective research will supplement the research of Suzhou city history,and provide inspiration for the contemporary protection and renewal of the ancient city of Suzhou. |
