A Study On The Landscape Of Military Settlements In Xiangxi Area Based On The Military Systems Of Ming And Qing Dynasties

Because of its unique geographical location and geographical environment,the Xiangxi area has become an important route of transportation between the Central Plains of China and the southwestern of china in history.And also because of its unique mountainous environment environment,it has become a settlement for many ethnic minorities to escape the control of the central ruler.Therefore,it has become The border zone between the Central Plains’ s civilization and ethnic minorities’ s cultures.In different dynasties,the rulers set up a large number of settlements based on military purposes under the different military policies in order to ensure the safety of this arterial road and suppress of the minorities in that area.These military settlements brought new immigrants to the Xiangxi area,reclaimed new land,ensured the stability of the Xiangxi area region,and promoted the subsequent development of agriculture and commercial trade.with the development of history,the functions of defensive in these settlements gradually faded,but the characteristics of defensiveness are imprinted in the surrounding landscape,city walls,streets and alleys of the settlements.Starting from the regional scale,this article sorts out the natural geographical environment,the changes of defensive system,the development process and the layout structure of the system in Xiangxi through the collation and research of the historical and military historical records of Xiangxi area.By collating ancient maps and comparing the ancient maps and modern satellite maps,the defensive settlement locations are placed on modern maps to build up an arcgis database.Then througn the spatial analysis technology of arcgis,the layout of the system in the Ming and Qing dynasties in the Xiangxi area is analyzed,and its spatial layout characteristics are summarized.Then,starting from the scale of settlements,the author selects some typical settlements of the Ming and Qing dynasties in which the defensive features are relatively well preserved.The internal and external spatial characteristics of the lane system,water conservancy system,and farmland system are summarized,and the spatial characteristics of military defensive settlements in the Xiangxi area are summarized by reading,sorting out,and investigating the local chronicles and local maps,the location and layout of the military defensive settlements in the Xiangxi area region during the Ming and Qing Dynasties were selected.Finally,the author briefly summarizes the internal and external spatial characteristics of the defensive settlements from the regional-scale and the settlement-scale in the Xiangxi area.The author reflects on the construction of military heritage corridors in the Xiangxi area in the context of urban development and tourism development,The development of tourism in defensive settlements,the deficiencies of protection and development of defensive space characteristics in these settlements.The proroses are provided about the development of defensive settlements in the Xiangxi area in the future.
