In recent years,the renewal of old residential areas is a hot research issue of urban renewal.With the development of economy and the improvement of residents’ living standards,their living needs also change,and residents have more diversified and higher demands.Therefore,in line with the current background of changing residents’ needs,adhering to the guiding ideology of "people-centered",from the perspective of residents,the paper explores residents’ material and cultural needs,and studies the evaluation criteria and renewal design strategies of old residential areas to meet residents’ needs.First of all,based on the research and sorting of relevant literature and policies,the research background,research purpose and significance,and research methods are introduced.Then defining the relevant concepts,this paper summarizes the maslow’s hierarchy of needs,update old residential public space and other related theory,and analyzes the maslow’s hierarchy of needs in the embodiment of the residents’ demand,the type and structure elements of old residential public space and consumer behavior activity type and characteristics,lay a theoretical foundation for follow-up study.Secondly,based on the theory of hierarchy of needs,this paper analyzes and summarizes the elements of residents’ demand for public space in old residential areas,and establishes an evaluation system of residents’ demand.Taking residents’ demand for public space in old residential areas as the target layer,five index layers including physiological demand and safety demand are set up.There are 13 factors,such as visual needs and health needs,and 29 indicators,such as viewing Angle,transportation organization and social places.Thirdly,based on the evaluation system,through the way of questionnaire and on-the-spot investigation to select samples of community residents to evaluate community public space,to collection and analysis of data collected by questionnaire,to meet the demand of residents of older communities is obtained evaluation data,and in combination with the practical situation of each district to analyze its advantages and disadvantages and problems together,To provide a targeted basis for the next strategy.Fourthly,in view of the summarized problems,the principles and strategies for the renewal of the public space in the old residential areas are put forward,and the renewal design strategies of the public space in the old residential areas are expounded from the five aspects of space function,space safety,ecological environment,place spirit and public participation system.Finally,the proposed organic renewal strategy is applied to the public space renewal project of the old residential area in Ziyang District,Yiyang City.Combined with the actual situation of the project,the project is renovated on the spot.
