Since the reform and opening up,with the rapid development of China’s economic and social development, the level of urban motorization has been significantly improved, resulting in a series of problems such as traffic congestion, air pollution and energy shortage increasingly prominent. In recent years, giving priority to the development of urban public transportation has become an important way to solve these urban problems. With the goal of improving the quality of urban public transportation services, exploring the mechanism of urban transit desert formation has gradually become a research hotspot in urban planning. From the perspective of public transportation demand and supply, this paper takes the main urban area of Wuhan as the research scope to identify urban transit desert area based on multi-source data and studies the influence of urban built environment factors on transit desert and puts forward corresponding improvement strategies.Firstly, based on the OD data of mobile phone signaling, the public transportation demand is calculated. The supply capacity of public transportation is quantified by selecting four indexes of urban public transport station density, line density, service frequency and transport capacity.By calculating the difference between the demand and the supply capacity of public transportation, the transit desert area in the main urban area of Wuhan is identified.Secondly, through the construction of binary Logistic model, the correlation between urban transit desert and urban built environment elements is quantitatively analyzed, and the root and dynamic mechanism of urban transit desert are explored. The results show that the transit deserts in Wuhan are mainly distributed in the area of the third ring road of the main urban area.According to the spatial distribution, they can be classified into three types: historical center urban agglomeration, distribution along urban trunk road and distribution along urban ring road. The regression results confirm that there is a significant correlation between the transit desert and the urban built environment in Wuhan, and different urban built environment factors have different influences on the formation of transit desert. The surrounding areas of high-grade commercial facilities and public service facilities,high-density recreational facilities and residential areas, highintensity development land and the surrounding areas of high-density urban roads are more likely to form urban transit desert. In addition, the unbalanced distribution of jobs and housing is also one of the main factors leading to the creation urban transit desert. Finally, based on the current situation of urban built environment elements and from the perspective of the balance between supply and demand of public transportation, this paper puts forward targeted optimization strategies for different types of transit desert in Wuhan. This study complements and improves the relevant studies on the quantification method of public transit desert identification and its influence mechanism, and provides technical support for the development of urban public transport and the optimization of urban land use layout.
