Present Situation And Adaptive Updating Strategy Of Guangzhou’s Historical Hotel Building Guest Room Area

Guangzhou is known as the "Millennium Business Capital".In modern times,due to the prosperous business activities,Guangzhou’s hotel industry has achieved a sustained and rapid development.The history of Guangzhou’s hotel has been nearly 140 years,during which a large number of hotel buildings appeared,among which there are many excellent historical hotel buildings.However,as time passed by,these hotels are facing the unfavorable situation of aging,weakening and even having a deficit,which seriously limits the sustainable development of them.As an important part of hotels,the renovation of guest room area is often an important way to extend the life of these hotels.However,due to the lack of relevant theoretical support and case experience,the quality of upgrading is not good or during which losing values.At present,most historical hotel buildings in Guangzhou are still being used,so the attitude towards their protection and renewal should not be frozen them,but should integrate them into modern society.The "adaptive renewal" is an effective and sustainable means of renewal by fully researching and evaluating the existing elements.It’s neither original renovation nor pushing down and rebuilding,but a strategy and thinking of " past,present and the future".The research object of this paper is the historic hotel buildings in Guangzhou,which are selected from the official list,and the research angle is the guest room area.At the beginning of this study,the original and current architectural drawings were obtained by searching archives and historical documents;Through investigation、interview and mapping,we collected the information and data of the present situation.Basing the relevant data,from the perspective of architectural design,combined with the current standards,this paper makes a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the present situation,and combs its main evolution.Finally,based on the current situation,combined with relevant case experiences,this paper puts forward the principle of adaptive renewal and the key points of value evaluation,and puts forward specific strategies for the overall positioning,the function of guest room area,space plane and section,which are systematically applied and demonstrated through design practice.
