Study On Protection And Renovation System Of The Arcade Architecture In Lingnan Area

The birth of arcade,an architecture style,in China stemmed from its predecessor—corridor-style buildings.Thanks to the maritime Silk Road,corridor-style buildings were taken by Westerners to Guangzhou,Haikou,Xiamen,Zhangzhou and other trade ports.Through these land nodes,corridor-style buildings then spread to the surrounding counties and cities.Nowadays,most of the Chinese arcades are located in the southern part of China,especially in Lingnan counties and cities.After being absorbed,localized and improved by local craftsmen,the western architecture style is with especially abundant types in China.Today,different places have various working paths for the protection and activation of such historical buildings.Each and every approach is outstanding at some ways,which worth exploring and learning.At the beginning,the research purpose of this article is to explore the architectural characteristics of Lingnan arcades from different angles,combine with the regional characteristics of Lingnan area,and carry forward the ideological connotation,aesthetic style and cultural value of Lingnan arcade architecture.This thesis briefly describes the emergence and development of the arcades in Lingnan area,then their plane and facade characteristics,then their characteristic value,followed by an exploration into the arcade repair and renovation techniques commonly used.Then,This paper uses literature analysis,field surveying and mapping,interviews and other research methods to analyze the protection and revitalization of arcade buildings in various areas of Lingnan.Put forward the advantages and disadvantages of the current protection and activation of Lingnan Arcade Building,and demonstrate its system and organization.Some cases of arcade protection and activation in Lingnan Area are analyzed.Arcade streets at Hong Kong,Macao,Haikou,Guangzhou,Shantou’s,or single arcade buildings that are successfully activated,are picked up as typical cases.By comparing and analyzing the similarities and differences of the cases,the problems and causes during the arcade protection and activation are obtained.Based on such differences,several strategies,together with the development direction for protecting and activating arcade in the future,are put forward.In the process of the design practice,while studying the typical cases of arcade activation in Lingnan Area,the author draws lessons from the experience of the former practice,and records their problems.Based on which the research plan and content are made.Shantou arcade,for example,has some problems in the stage of activation and renovation.Then the author shows how to handle with similar problems in the process of design practice.Finally,draw conclusions about the "three characteristics" thinking about arcade protection and repair,the three-level protection system and three activation modes of arcade buildings in Lingnan area,and the three ways of protection and activation of Zhao’an arcade buildings.The arcade design practice project in Zhaoan County,Fujian Province,is located at the junction of Fujian and Guangdong.Although by political division the in Zhaoan County belongs to Zhangzhou City,Fujian Province,geographically it is located close to Chaoshan,which makes it a part of Lingnan Area.Through information digging,the design group found the formation and development of the arcade buildings,and their correlation with Chaoshan area.Through the practical work of renovating the arcade Street in Zhongshan Road,Zhaoan County,the evolution of the above-mentioned cases of arcade buildings in Lingnan Area is fully illustrated,which is of guiding significance for,and adding more samples to,the protection and activation of arcade buildings in surrounding counties and cities.
