Study On The Spatial Evolution And Revitalization Strategy Of Guangdong Arcade Historic Street In Comme Rcial Background

As one kind of regional architecture with commercial and residential function widely distributed in Guangdong,Arcade has been the most unique and active part of urban business economic center,which was mostly correspond to the climate characteristics of South of the Five Ridges and witnessed the history of the prosperity and development of Guangdong.However,with the transfer of the commercial and economic center of city,Arcade districts were gradually transformed into a part of the modern city or traditional historical district.The main factors resulted in the lack of activity of the Arcade street were the obsolete infrastructure,the improper maintenance and repair measures on architecture,the relocation of local residents and the transformation of the city's business model.With rapid growth of contemporary urbanization,how to keep the social livelihood and to activate the commercial space has become an important subject in the research of Arcade district.Focusing on the cultural perspective of the commercial and residential function of Arcade,taking the main vitalities of Arcade district(the construction environment space and the space users)as the starting point,analyzing the factors that influence the vitality of Arcade district from two aspects: the physical environment space and the social life of the district.The space environment of district can be divided into the physical structure of architecture and the street space,through the analyze of the following aspect including the planer structure and facade structure of Arcade constructions,main building style and the building quality,space sequence and space form(interface continuity,street space scale)of Arcade district in different areas of Guangdong,the factors of building space and street environment that can lead to different vitality in different arcade district can be obtained.This study selected Shangxiajiu commercial district in Guangzhou,Arcade district in Chikan,Kaiping and small park Arcade district in Shantou to analyze the social life(commercial activities,living activities and cultural activities).By comparing social vitality in different road of the same Arcade district at a block level,the past and present different social vigor of the same district at a time level and social vitality between different blocks at the spatial level,the factors that affected the activity and frequency of social activities of users in this area can be concluded,which was based on indicators included different cultural and geographical background,different construction backgrounds and different social activity.Setting up the structure of influencing the activity of arcade historical district space,analyzing the update pattern,dominant force and question remained in update and preservation of Arcade historic district,and then proposing the principle of district activation and update.According to the field investigation and literature analysis,the existing development patterns of Guangdong Arcade Historic District mainly include commercial street,tourist area,residential area and mixed development.The preservation patterns include government-oriented,real estate-oriented and public-oriented.The update and activation activities of Arcade blocks should follow the principles above:(1)protecting block space texture;(2)keeping the buildings' authenticity;(3)retaining the dynamic space;(4)protecting the traditional culture;(5)commercial and residential integration in block.According to the case of West-Zhongxing Road Arcade historical and cultural district in Dongguan,analyzing the vitality and the existing problems of block,and putting forward the activation strategies of Arcade district based on the physical and social life aspects.Strategies based on physical level include consolidating building interface,regulating building heights,renovating building facades,optimizing environmental facilities,embedding node component and re-planning roadway system,etc.Strategies based on social life level include adjusting commercial format,retaining and leading into vitality space,introducing resident population and excavating association activities,etc.The study on the rejuvenation of the Arcade district is conducive to the protection of urban culture and the construction of urban characteristics,as well as the improvement of living environment of neighborhood residents and the development of regional economic.It is also propitious to achieve sustainability of urban vitality and make the district to show a positive image,which can provide a prospective reference and guideline for the protection and renewal of Guangdong Arcade and the activation a nd reuse of the Arcade district.
