A Study Of The Stone Carvings On The Cliff In The Temple Gardens Of The West Lake

Cliff stone carving is a kind of landscape construction by integrating artificial stone carving into natural landscape.West Lake cliff stone carving is an important part of Hangzhou culture and landscape,which adds profound humanistic connotation to the beautiful natural scenery of West Lake and has rich historical research value.Cliff stone carvings not only contain the traditional cultural connotation of the temple garden,but also include the way of stone carvings landscape.The feilaifeng stone carvings in Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou is the most typical one in this category.Feilaifeng stone carving is the largest Buddhist stone carving remains in the south of the Yangtze River in China.It is also a unique existence in the West Lake scenic spots.It perfectly integrates natural landscape and artificial stone carving.This paper attempts to start from the landscape features of feilaifeng stone carvings,the most representative stone carvings of West Lake,under the background of West Lake temple garden.I will first sort out the development of Buddhism thought in Hangzhou,analyze the geographical location and historical changes of feilaifeng stone carvings,and then study how feilaifeng stone carvings make landscape layout from three perspectives: the aesthetic characteristics of feilaifeng stone carvings,the popularization of Buddhism,and the coexistence of Tibetan and Chinese landscape And so on.This paper studies the characteristics of the West Lake cliff stone carving landscape.A more three-dimensional interpretation of the West Lake cliff stone carvings has a very important enlightenment and guiding significance for contemporary landscape architecture design.
