Rural settlements are the most widely distributed human settlements and living places in China and even in the world.Rural settlements can not only reflect the local geographical environment, carry the genes of national culture, and largely reflect the level of folk customs and economic development.Influenced by regional culture and national history, the settlements present different settlement styles, spatial forms and architectural features. The thesis takes the rural settlements of the Dai ethnic group in Menglong Town of Xishuangbanna Prefecture as an example.Through the investigation and research of local history, ethnography, village history and field investigations, the research constructs a multidimensional spatial model of settlements, that is,the three dimensions of “material dimension-social dimension-time dimension”.It expounds in detail the multi-dimensional attributes of the form, philosophy, religion and social culture contained in the settlement space, and analyzes the unique spatial pattern and cultural context characteristics of contemporary Dai village settlements. It reveals the settlement location pattern, the spatial composition mechanism of landscape, forest, and farmland,as well as the social and cultural potential mechanism of traditional settlement construction.According to the time dimension,it analyzes the evolution mechanism of the space level, and analyzes the contemporary evolution of the "internal force" and "external force" mechanism and driving factors. Finally,it reveals the problems in the evolution of settlements, and proposes settlement renewal strategies for protecting the ecological environment, inheriting national culture, reflecting national customs, and developing cultural tourism.Provide guidance for the construction of regional human settlements and provide inspiration for the optimization of rural settlement space.
