| Driven by favorable economic environment and national urbanization strategy,China’s urbanization has entered a period of accelerated development since the 1990 s.However,it brings a series of problems,such as ecological destruction,resource shortages,environmental pollution,and imbalance development between the urban and rural areas.The relationship between city and nature has attracted increasing attention.After the reform and opening up,a large number of modern architectural thoughts,such as Western modernism,post-modernism,and deconstruction flooded into China.Due to the obscure theories and rough symbolic collages,the disconnection between theory and practice of architecture is universal.Although China’s construction is developing at an unprecedented rate,the original urban context and texture have been destroyed.China’s urban construction crisis is essentially a lack of architectural culture.In this context,Shanshui-City brings inspiration to the future urban architectural design through the renaissance of Chinese Shanshui culture and rich theoretical connotation.From theoretical and practical dimensions,this thesis studies the development of architectural thoughts and practices under the influence of Shanshui imagery since the1980 s.It traces Chinese traditional Shanshui Imagery,including the various implications of Shanshui-painting,Shanshui-garden and Shanshui-poetry;In the theoretical dimension,the thesis focuses on the study of Qian Xuesen’s Shanshui-City.Specifically,it collects the journal articles and correspondences between Qian Xuesen and other architectural scholars since the 1980 s in order to trace the evolution of Qian Xuesen Shanshui-City.In the 1990 s,Gu Mengchao,a modern architecture scholar,introduced Qian Xuesen’s Shanshui-City into the field of architecture.The thesis studies his correspondences with Qian Xuesen and his theoretical achievements.Nowadays,in the face of global challenge,we have an urgent need to rebuild the confidence of architectural culture.The designs and practices of many Chinese architects inherit and improve Shanshui Imagery.In the practical dimension,the thesis studies the education,professional experience and creations of three representative Chinese modern architects,namely,Ma Yansong,Wang Shu and Zhu Pei.After discussing the above two dimensions,this thesis puts forward the modern architectural design strategy rooted in Shanshui imagery.Shanshui-City has deeply influenced the development of China’s architectural creation through its continuous improvement.Shanshui-City theory proposed by Qian Xuesen is a solution not only to problems that arise from the rapid development of the city but also to the renaissance of the architectural theory with Chinese characteristics.The theory is of critical significance to the phenomenon of blindly importing foreign architectural symbols to China.On the other hand,with the increasing architectural designs under the influence of Shanshui imagery,the strategies and thoughts summarized from the practice further enrich and improve the theory of Shanshui-City. |
