The healthy growth of children is of great significance to the future of society.The well-being of children is the ultimate goal of measuring a healthy community,a democratic society,and good governance.However,in the rapid changes in society and cities,children’s rights have been neglected or even treated unequally.The "Child-Friendly City" initiative is aimed at improving children’s life in the city in response to children’s rights.The research and practice of child-friendly cities also include children’s activity space,children’s independent activities,urban environment with children,children’s participation,children’s safe travel and other aspects.Building a child-friendly city is also concerned with the needs of vulnerable groups in the city,improving urban space and policies,and building an inclusive city suitable for everyone."Child-friendly cities" have become an important value guide for improving the quality of cities and optimizing and updating the space at home and abroad.Domestic research on child-friendly cities is still in its infancy,and there is a lack of systematic research on the construction of safe travel routes for children.In Beijing,Shenzhen,Changsha,Chengdu and other large cities,child-friendly cities have begun to practice.As one of China’s important megacities,Tianjin has not started its child-friendly city construction,and research data has not been accumulated.Old residential areas have been optimized and the update needs to be resolved urgently in Tianjin.This article takes Tianjin as an example,selects three typical old residential areas as the research objects based on construction years and spatial morphological characteristics,starts from the characteristics of children’s activities,studies children’s travel needs,and analyzes the safety of children in residential areas from both the physical environment and the spatial environment.The travel path planning framework uses a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods to investigate children’s space preference.Combining AHP and ordered probit model,an evaluation system is established for children’s travel friendliness in old residential areas.Based on the investigation of current children’s activity characteristics,material environment and social environment in the old residential area,the evaluation of the child-friendly travel evaluation system of the old residential area is used to plan the child’s safe travel path based on the evaluation results and discuss the child’s safe travel improvement in both material environment and social environment.Improvement strategies mainly include: traffic calming design and transportation system reconstruction;shared street space design in residential areas;improvement of rationality of school configuration and increasing the entrance space of schools;addition of children’s signage system;organization of walking school buses;increasing social contact space of neighborhood and transforming negative spaces in residential areas to strengthen social care;use temporary facilities to hold incentive activities to get social support. |
