The Shahe Ancient Bridge Site is a large wooden beam bridge site in the period of Qin and Han Dynasties. It is located in Shanglin Garden in the Qin and Han Dynasties. It was once an important infrastructure for the transportation of the "Desert Silk Road" and the "Southwest Silk Road" from the city of Chang’an.At the moment of advancing the protection and utilization of heritage along the Silk Road,as the remains of important transportation facilities at the starting point of the Silk Road,it is urgent to perform a systematic display of its heritage value and connotation. However,as most Heidegger said, the bridge,as a special place, aggregates the elements in the surrounding landscape to produce meaning and constitute a place, which has the characteristics of a prominent cultural landscape. In view of this, this thesis investigates the value of the Shahe Ancient Bridge,an outstanding representative of Qin and Han bridge engineering practices through the perspective of cultural landscape research, based on relevant theories of bridge cultural heritage and site environmental protection and display. As value evaluation standards of bridge heritage at home and abroad are used for reference, this thesis not only analyzes the protection and display status and historical evolution process of the Shahe Ancient bridge, but also identifies the heritage elements of the bridge.Afterwards, this thesis identifies the value of the Shahe bridge and thereby sorts out the display content, which is closely related to the precious value of the Shahe bridge heritage landscape. The content includes(1)the architectural heritage content of the ancient bridge site,(2)the historical ecological environment characteristics of the river it crosses,(3)the historical landscape layered in the heritage landscape, and the current landscape information.Based on the aforementioned analysis of heritage value, the thesis further investigates and clarifies that the Shahe ancient bridge site,as the only display window of the Qin and Han Weishui bridges, should act as a rare place for display and experience of the situation and spatial behavior of the Qin and Han wooden beam bridges at home and abroad.Hence, this thesis proposed four specific design strategies:(1)recovering the environmental landscape characteristics of the ancient bridge;(2)expressing the landscape information of the ancient bridge heritage;(3)activating the bridge space experience(4)connecting the site and daily life. Finally, based on the characteristics of the Shahe ancient bridge heritage and the actual situation of the site, specific interpretation and design methods are proposed for the above-mentioned heritage content that needs to be displayed at the practical level, and the landscape fragments showing the overall heritage value are deduced in context, and the Shahe ancient bridge heritage The dynamic superimposition process of the landscape is a clue, combined with the organization method of "merging similar items" and "multiple lines and narrating",constructing four themed visit routes of archaeological visit route, king cruise route, water transport and military route, and business travel route, through architecture and landscape The design completes the systematic and integrated protection and display of the heritage value and connotation of the Shahe Ancient Bridge. The proposed thesis is based on the Shahe ancient bridge site and its environment. On the one hand,it constructs design strategies and specific methods that can enhance the public’s value recognition of the bridge heritage, and then enables the ancient sites to display cultural values, integrate into the contemporary urban environment and enrich the modern urban life.On the other hand, the research results can provide a reference analysis framework for the value recognition of other similar bridge cultural heritages, and lay the foundation for the protection and display planning and design of bridge sites along the Silk Road and even other transportation infrastructure sites. |
