With the rapid advancement of urbanization in China,the traffic pressure in cities is increasing day by day.Urban traffic congestion has become a major problem that restricts urban development.Rail transit construction was used to relieve ground traffic pressure.By the end of 2020,there has been a total of 45 cities with rail transit in China,including historical and cultural cities such as Beijing,Nanjing,Xi’an,Shenyang,and Guangzhou.In the historic urban area of these cities,the construction of rail transit is restricted by historical and cultural protection,socio-economic development and other factors.The "TOD" development model is difficult to apply to the areas around rail transit stations in historic urban area.This paper takes the rail transit stations in Xi’an historic urban area as examples,analyzes the historical and cultural resources,land use,transportation system,public space,and urban feature in the surrounding areas,and summarizes characteristics and existing problems of spatial utilization in the surrounding areas of rail transit stations in the historic urban area,proposing corresponding optimization strategies for the space integration and utilization around the rail transit station in the historic urban area.First,through combing the relevant theories of rail transit construction and the renewal and protection of historic urban area,as well as excellent cases about rail transit stations design and construction at home and abroad,summarize the characteristics and methods of planning and design around rail transit stations in historic urban area.This provides a method and basis for this article to analyze the spatial characteristics and problems around the rail transit station in Xi’an historic urban area,and provides corresponding theoretical and empirical support for proposing the optimization strategies of the space utilization of the rail transit station and surrounding areas.Secondly,through on-site investigation and in-depth analysis of rail transit stations in Xi’an historical area,the influence range of rail transit stations is determined.Adopting a combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis methods to conduct an in-depth analysis of the surrounding areas of rail transit stations in Xi’an historic urban area from historical and cultural resources,land use,transportation system,public space,and urban feature.These stations are divided into three types: commercial type,residential type and public service type.This paper summarizes space utilization characteristics and existing problems around the three types of rail transit stations.Finally,based on research of spatial utilization characteristics and existing problems of rail transit stations in historic urban area,optimization strategies are proposed in the surrounding areas of commercial,residential and public service rail rail transit stations in the historic urban area of Xi’an.Optimization strategies are in land use,transportation system,public space,public space and urban feature,etc.It is hoped to provide a reference for the follow-up study of the surrounding area of the rail rail transit station in historic urban area,so that the rail rail transit station can play more roles in urban development and contribute to the sustainable development of the historic urban area.
