Comparative Studies On The Competitiveness Of Guangzhou And Shenzhen Container Terminals

With the development of Global trade,container transportation,as the main mode of sea logistics,plays an increasingly important role.In recent years,the global economy has become more and more depressed,the shipping market has excess capacity,and the competition among container terminal enterprises has become increasingly fierce.Guangzhou port and Shenzhen port,which are both located in the Pearl River Delta,are important windows of China’s foreign trade.The development of container terminals in the two ports plays an important role in the foreign logistics in the Pearl River Delta and even the whole country.In recent years,with the gradual shrinkage of container throughput in Hong Kong and development of the container terminals of Guangzhou and Shenzhen,Guangzhou and Shenzhen have gradually replaced Hong Kong as the main channel for the import and export of goods in the Pearl River Delta.Therefore,the competition between Guangzhou and Shenzhen container terminals is inevitable.Based on this,on the basis of reviewing and commenting on the existing research results at home and abroad,this paper uses the data envelopment model(DEA)to compare and analyze the competitiveness of Guangzhou and Shenzhen container terminals.Based on the discovery of the existing research deficiencies,this paper first clarifies the research ideas and technical routes of this paper,summarizes the competitiveness evaluation system of container terminals by combining the relevant theories;then,by comparing the advantages and disadvantages of the competitiveness evaluation methods of container terminals,the qualitative and quantitative methods are selected to study Guangzhou and Shenzhen Competitiveness of container terminals.In terms of qualitative analysis,the competitiveness is compared from four aspects: natural and geographical conditions,scale and composition,policy environment and information management level;in terms of quantitative analysis,taking the data of 18 ports in 2016 as samples,this paper selected the indexes of the DEA method by extracting the main components of several indexes,and then calculates the efficiency values.It is found that the efficiency values of Guangzhou container terminals are less than 1,which is an invalid decision-making unit.And the reasons for the inefficiency are also analyzed in this paper.The efficiency values of Shenzhen container terminal are 1,which is an effective decision-making unit,and the aspects that Shenzhen container terminal can further improve are put forward.On the basis of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis,this paper gives the conclusion that the competitiveness of Shenzhen is higher than that of Guangzhou in the short term,and in the long term,it’s going to be roughly the same.Finally,in view of the specific problems reflected in the evaluation and analysis of Guangzhou and Shenzhen container terminals,this paper puts forward countermeasures and suggestions to enhance their competitiveness.
