A Study On Meaning-driven Experience Design Thinking Based On The Perspective Of Phenomenology

In the context of the paradigm transition of "From User Experience to Experience Design",the importance of experience design thinking and the question of meaning construction in experience design began to become prominent.Phenomenological philosophy pays much attention to the question of experience and meaning.This article introduces phenomenological theory into the research of experience design,and explores the thinking principle of experience design from the philosophical level.This theory starts from the experiential turn of the design object,explains the essential structure of experience and the formation mechanism of meaning.After clarifying the goal of meaning-driven experience design,the meaning-driven experience design thinking is expounded from three levels.Because the popular “user” concept obscures the rich experience ability of people,the current user experience design thinking cannot achieve meaning innovation.Therefore,the design object needs to shift from the user experience to the experience itself,including the target population of the design expands from users to the experiencer,the content of the design extends from the use behavior to the experience itself.Human experience is intentional,and experience is an intentional activity with an intentional object,and its essential structure is the structure of "intentional activity-intentional object".The formation process of intentional activities for intentional objects is the process by which people experience meaning.Meaning-driven design thinking is a design thinking that starts from the designer’s personal experience.Husserl’s "life world" thought inspires designers to transform the abstract technological world into a life world with rich experience.The goal of meaning-driven experience design is to restore the rich experience of the life world from the designer’s personal experience.Meaning-driven experience design thinking can be divided into three levels.First,based on Husserl’s "pure experience" thinking,a transparent interface experience design thinking is proposed.Pure experience is a kind of cognitive experience,and the meaning of things is constituted by the experiencer within the consciousness.Pure experience reveals the transparency of experience.Experience designers should design all interfaces or touch points of products or services as the same transparent interface.Secondly,based on Heidegger’s "real life experience" thought,he proposed unconscious experience design thinking.Actual life experience is the experience of people dealing with things in the world,and the meaning of things is dynamically formed by the experiencer in the process of dealing with things.Real life experience reveals the unconsciousness of experience.Experience designers can change the way the experiencer interacts with things,allowing the experiencer to meet things unconsciously,and let them understand the meaning of things in the process of dealing with things.Finally,based on Merleau-Ponty’s "body perception" thought,the physical thinking of experience design is proposed.Body perception experience precedes cognitive experience and sensory experience,and the human body is the knot and field of meaning.The mind of body perception reveals the physicality of experience.Based on the body schema theory,experience designers can achieve embodied experience by increasing the matching degree of the experiencer’s body movement with the situation.Based on the body perception field theory,experience designers can create a relaxed experience atmosphere by weakening and reducing the regulations of the experience objects,and create a concrete,dynamic,and two-way connection between the experiencer and things.In addition,this article also introduces a case of the author’s use of meaning-driven experience design thinking in design practice,describes the specific application process of the theory in the project definition and design proposal stage,and preliminarily verifies the guiding significance of the theory to design practice.
