| Under the guidance of the policy of "one belt and one road" in China, and the prosperity of Yangtze River economic zone, the port shipping industry has an increasing requirement for the pilot’s professional skills.By the mean time, the developed shipping economy brings difficulties such as high density of the port traffic, large and oversized ships, and so on,and constantly require harbor pilots more professional and progressive. In addition, many studies have demonstrated that the primary reason of the pilotage safety accidents in the port area is human error. How can pilots improve their professional skills and avoid pilots’ human errors? Competency theory provides an effective way.Pilot training research based on competency theory can improve the overall quality of pilots by improving their competency. This paper elaborates the background and significance of this research at first, then defines the competency and pilot training theory, investigates 141 pilots of Shanghai port and introduces the pilot training status and foreign pilot training mode. After that, based on the competency theory, the traditional pilots’ training is analyzed, and after the comparison of pilots’ training in developed ports abroad, the deficiencies of current pilots’ training are found. Then, according to the competency modeling method, six pilots in Shanghai Port are interviewed in double-blind group by behavioral event interview, and the contents of the interview are compiled into text manuscripts to encode their competency characteristics. The coding data were analyzed by SPSS 23 software, and 9 differentiating competencies and 8 threshold competencies of pilots were extracted, thus the model of pilots’ competency was established. Finally, based on the model of pilots’ competency, this paper puts forward some suggestions and strategies for pilots’ training, hoping to provide theoretical and practical reference for further optimization of pilots’ training. |
