Under the background of rapid Urbanization,the construction scale and speed of metro increase significantly in China,and the design of metro stations and entrances does matter in an optimum connection between metro line planning and urban space.Furthermore,compared with the construction of the tube,the setting of metro stations and entrances have more influence for existing buildings above ground,especially historical buildings.Therefore,we have to respond the related issue about the integration between metro entrances and existing buildings with a positive attitude since that higher spatial density and expanded metro line construction would be the development trend of urban.Moreover,the code for design of metro has been authorized and revised with the development of metro construction,the accumulation of related experience and practical problems,and on which local codes have a further improvement and refinement to base according to local situations.The study initiated from the Urban Design Project of “Sanshisibiao” Block in Nanjing with my participation.In2006,one of the Nanjing Metro Line 3 entrances had been planned to build in this block which was set as public green space because of its spatial narrowness.In 2011,the block was defined as Commercial Land Use and Baixia District Government intended to build both commercial resettlement and public green space through the renovation of dilapidated buildings,and the entrance of Metro Line 3 still would be built inside the block.In 2014,under the background of contradiction between the boundary lines of Taiping South Road and historical buildings along the road,the buildings beyond the boundary lines inside the block would be demolished.However,the special spatial morphological value of “Sanshisibiao” block lies in its specific architecture typology and urban morphology during the Modern China period,besides,compared with other blocks on Taiping South Road,“Sanshisibiao” block remains more distinct fabric and street elevation,which are of great historical value.Consequently,the historical buildings inside the block beyond the former boundary lines preserved according to the new one which is set along the building boundary.Now the problem is that the original planning of Metro Line 3 entrance can hardly be built in the block due to the confliction between limited space and current design code for metro entrance of Nanjing On the basis of temporary economic and technological condition,the code could be formulated,which will be revised with the development of economy and technology,but the requirement and scale of the design users would be stable.Hence,this study tries to start from the criteria and comparison of feasible plans of metro entrance,considering the impact for the structure and inner spatial morphology,the accessibility for different potential users and the impact for different pedestrian orientation above the ground.Additionally,this design attempt to break the current code for design of metro entrance imposed in Nanjing through comparing the difference between local code of Shanghai and Beijing respectively to achieve the adaptive design of metro entrance in the historical block.The whole thesis contains about 32000 words,42 pictures and charts.
