The color drawing on ancient Chinese buildings is an indispensable part of the ancient buildings.Besides the practical function of protecting wooden structure,it has a strong artistic decoration effect.Ancient buildings as a combination of technology and art, architectural color drawing occupies a particularly important part of art.At present, the study of architectural color drawing in Ming Dynasty is relatively weak compared with that in Qing Dynasty. The physical remains of color drawing in Ming Dynasty are far less than that in Qing Dynasty,And there is no official history book on buildings in Ming Dynasty,so we can’t get the most real look of architectural color drawing from the historical data.It is more difficult to study architectural color drawing in Ming Dynasty.Nowadays, the study of the official architectural color painting in Ming Dynasty ignores the differences between different materials.According to the different materials which the color painting attached to,this thesis studies on the characteristics and evolution of the color painting, drawing on beam and square-column of official building in the Ming Dynasty,This thesis is mainly divided into two parts. In the first part, basing on the available study, this part sums up,contrast and summarizes the official architectural color drawing on beam and square-column of wood buildings in The Ming Dynasty, mainly studies on the several aspects including composition law, pattern features, color setting law and development of the color drawing.Color drawing on wood, that Based on wood structure, has relatively more existing objects and rich research. In ancient times, wood is the main material of buildings.Compared with the color drawing on other materials, color drawing on wood is more primitive and basic, and has more representative on the specifications of official architectural color drawing in Ming Dynasty. The second part studies on the official architectural color drawing in Ming Dynasty painted on materials other than wood structure, mainly compared with the content in the first part at the several aspects including composition law, pattern features, color setting law of the color drawing. In addition to the color drawing mainly paints on the wood structure,it also paints on brick and stone,on glaze,on metal;on marl such as color painting drawn in the murals;and on thesis and silk such as architectural color drawing drawn in the palace paintings and in the picture book of inner Mansion. There is a certain connection between the performance of the official architectural color painting drawing on the beam and square-column which composed of different materials in Ming Dynasty.Bricks and stones, glaze and metal constructions are imitations of the wood construction,in this way,to some extent, the image of architectural color painting will also be imitated according to the wood structure architectural color painting at that time. Therefore,it tends to be consistent with the law of wood architecture color painting in the same period.Different from it,the architectural color drawing depicted in the murals and the palace paintings is similar to the architectural color drawing on wood in reality. However, due to the freedom of creation of the painting itself, the inherent regularity characteristics of architectural color drawing will not be very rigorous. The purpose of this thesis is to reappear the appearance and evolution law of the color paintings on the beam and square-column in Ming Dynasty more comprehensively and truly, through the contrast between the color paintings on different materials, hoping to provide a more systematic and rigorous basis for the protection and restoration of the existing color paintings of Ming Dynasty.
