China’s 40 years of reform and opening up witnessed the enlargement of scale and scope(from small to large),the lifting of level(from low to high),the enrichment of varieties(from single to comprehensive)and the expansion of regions(from southeast coast to inland areas)of investment from foreign companies in China, which has effectively promoted China’s economic growth and technological innovation. In 2019,China absorbed US $ 941.5 billion of foreign investment,year-on-year growth of 5.8%,ranking second globally. As of the end of 2019,a total of 41,000 foreign-invested enterprises had been established in China, broke through 1 million enterprises.Up to now,China has grown into one of the world’s largest foreign-invested countries.Along with the continuous expansion of China’s opening-up policy and pattern, many of foreign-funded enterprises have poured into China for investment and development. On October 19,2019,the first Qingdao Multinationals Summit was held in Qingdao,Shandong Province. In the congratulatory letter,President Xi Jinping gave a highly accurate answer:as important participants and beneficiaries, multinational companies have played an active role in driving the historical course of China’s 40-year reform and opening-up.The 21st century features an era of knowledge economy, when knowledge and skills become increasingly important for enterprises. As a result, the performance and accomplishment of employees,as the masters of knowledge and skills, will become the key factors for the progress of enterprises.Knowledge-based employees in the enterprises will especially play a pivotal role in such progress. As the foreign-funded enterprises grow rapidly in large numbers in China’s economic environment, the proportion of knowledge-based employees has increased significantly in such enterprises, making knowledge-based employees a core force and resource for the survival and development of enterprises. In order to ensure maximized benefits of the enterprise,it’s important to know how to make knowledge-based employees create greater value for the company.During the current transformation of foreign-funded enterprises,we should pay more attention to the effective motivation of knowledge-based employees and give play to the functions of human resource management,to prevent direct economic losses and rival companies’expansion due to the loss of business opportunities, core technologies and quality customers incurred by the turnover of knowledge-based employees. The paper analyzes the incentive measures taken by a foreign-funded company in British for knowledge-based employees based on the data from the company. It further analyzes and researches some problems faced by the foreign-invested enterprise in the motivation of knowledge-based employees in recent years amid its business development in China, such as enthusiasm, initiative, creativity, and sense of belonging, based on the theories, concepts and models related to human resource management. In a wish to provide some experience for the management of existing foreign-invested enterprises in the transformation period in China for reference.
