The Research On Exterior Wall Materials Of Buildings In Modern Tiensin–A Case Study Of Bricks

After the Ming and Qing Dynasties,Tiensin experienced the upgrade of different ranks of city based on the old town and its water transport culture.It also gradually evolved from a purely military based to the economical and cultural center in northern China where gathering businessmen.Its architectural styles and materials are mainly traditional brick houses with grey brick’s facade.After the opening of the port,the old town was destroyed,the concession of nine countries came into being with 8 times area than the old town.Today,Tiensin’s modern remaining architecture are mostly from here,becoming the historical context and precious cultural resources that can not be ignored in the contemporary urban construction.Due to the existing research results,there are many articles about the application of special building facade materials in Tiensin,such as stones,cement plastering and so on.Few studies have been done on the development and firing of bricks in Tiensin.In the framework of the study with brick exterior wall materials in Tiensin,the brick buildings in the remainings of modern architecture in Tiensin are the objects of this study.Therefore,starting from the background of modern building materials industry in Tiensin,this paper paves the way for the research of modern fired bricks.Taking architecture as the carrier,the buildings with brick exterior wall materials are firstly screened out from the remains of modern architecture in Tiensin.And sort out its past and present life in the modern history of Tiensin,also the background and application of firing technology and masonry method of exterior wall brick.The core content divides Tianjin modern fired brick into three basic types: grey bricks,red bricks and Liugang bricks,unscrambling the application of brick in modern Tiensin’s historical style architecture with micro,meso and macro perspectives.Among them,the microscopic refers to the production process and material characteristics of the brick;the mesoscopic is the masonry method and application;Macroscopically,the importance of modern brick exterior wall materials in Tiensin is clarified through the distribution law of the whole modern brick exterior wall materials in the modern history of Tiensin,which can pave the way for the comparative study of modern buildings in Tiensin,Shanghai,Wuhan and Guangzhou.
