According to the statistics from related departments,in recent years, the number of traffic accidents caused by the driver’s vision being disturbed by the flashing of high-intensity road police fill lights has increased at a rate of 12% per year.At present, the research at home and abroad mainly focuses on the evaluation and measurement of the super glare of fill light, and the research on improvement measures and methods is relatively weak. This paper explores the effects of changes in stimulation intensity, stimulation time and background brightness on human vision during the stimulation of glare, and aims to design a new method for economically and quickly mitigating the driver’s visual impact of road monitoring light supplement devices based on experimental results. It is proposed that the effect of glare on human vision should mainly be two phases of stimulation and recovery. In the study, the effect of various factors on human vision is evaluated by the sensory intensity and comfort level. In the stimulation phase, the main study is,during the changes in stimulus conditions, sensory intensity of human eyes, the time of pupil reduction and visual brightness sensitivity interval. In the recovery phase, the main study is,when the stimulus conditions change, the time of pupil recovery and the rate of pupil recovery. The main conclusions drawn through experiments are as follows.(1)It is found that the pupil does not change immediately when the human eyes is stimulated by glare. The pupil adjustment is a transient process with a transient duration of about 0.15 s and the transient duration of the pupil adjustment is basically constant when the stimulation conditions change;(2)When the stimulation intensity and stimulation time are unchanged and the background luminance is increased to 4.0cd/㎡,as the background luminance increases, the range of reduction in the duration of pupil contraction becomes smaller. As a result, the background luminance of 4.0cd/㎡ is an inflection point that reduces the duration of pupil contraction by increasing the background luminance.(3)When the background luminance is not less than 5.0cd/ ㎡,the influence ofstimulation intensity on visual perception intensity becomes smaller. At this time,as the stimulation intensity increases, the difference in pupil area tends to be unchanged, that is,the sensory intensity tends to remain constant.(4)The vertical illuminance of human eye is more sensitive to changes in light intensity at 90-130 lux, while the sensitivity of human eye to the changes of brightness decreases when the illuminance is above 130 lux.(5)A lighting method to mitigate the effects of glare from road supplementary lighting devices is designed into two parts of pre-illumination and brightness compensation, which are used to reduce the amount of light entering pupil in stimulation phase and increase the amount during recovery phase. The research value of this paper mainly has two points. The first is the theoretical value. The measurable changes of pupil area and changing time are used to replace the subjective and non-measurable sensory intensity and and comfort level, which quantifies the intensity of perception and the degree of comfort. The second is the engineering significance.By combining the experimental conclusions,a lighting method is designed to reduce the visual interference of road supplementary lighting devices.
