The residential area is the main space unit of modern urban living. The residential area is the main space unit of modern urban living.Urban vitality refers to the degree of social activity in urban space, and is the guarantee for the vigorous vitality of urban space and the survival and development of urban functions. At present, the rapid urbanization process is still the main theme of China’s urban economic development. The urban population and urban residential land are constantly expanding. The problems of urban leap development, residential suburbanization, population and residential land mismatch, and the lack of vitality in new urban areas have gradually become prominent. As the main carrier of urban living space, residential quarters will be an effective means to test the quality of urban residential space, and will be of great significance for evaluating the efficiency of urban land use and guiding the planning of urban residential land.At the same time, the arrival of the "multi-source big data era" provides technical support for acquiring and processing huge amounts of urban geospatial data, making it possible to characterize and reveal the spatiotemporal characteristics of massive urban elements in space.Under this background, this paper selects the typical mountainous city in western China-the main urban area of Chongqing as the research scope, and takes the residential area vitality as the research object to carry out quantitative evaluation and analysis of the residential area vitality of Chongqing’s main urban area.First,at the stage of theoretical research and data method combing, this paper defines the connotation framework of the vitality of residential quarters based on literature combing, and clarifies the evaluation indicators and data processing models and methods of the vitality of residential quarters.Second, based on the connotation framework of residential quarters, this paper builds a quantitative evaluation system for single-element evaluation and comprehensive vitality index evaluation, and conducts a comprehensive and detailed quantitative study on the spatio-temporal characteristics of residential quarter vitality with the "part-to-whole" evaluation logic.Third, select the key attributes of residential quarters—building age and housing prices, and conduct an internal mechanism study on the correlation between the comprehensive vitality index of residential quarters and building age and housing prices. Finally, based on the spatial clustering distribution characteristics of the comprehensive vitality index of the residential area, the building age and the housing prices, ten typical areas with special connotations were identified, and an empirical case study was conducted. The research in this paper believes that:(1)The three-dimensional vitality connotation framework of the internal environment, external environment and human environment of the residential area should be constructed with a systematic thought. The internal environment provides the material foundation, the external environment provides the functional support, and the human environment represents the human activities. The three complement each other, interdependence and coordination constitute the entire connotation of the vitality of the residential community.(2)The land use intensity, traffic accessibility, functional density, functional diversity, and population heat of residential quarters are the five first-level indicators for single-element evaluation. In terms of sub-indicators,the spatial distribution characteristics of different indicators in residential quarters are significantly different.Combining the characteristics of different indicators, this article carried out a more detailed and comprehensive quantitative evaluation; The "center, group" spatial structure and the impact of mountain and water barriers are significant. In the core area of the inner ring of the city and the outer old city, the land use intensity, accessibility, functional density and population heat of the residential area are significantly higher than the new urban area outside the inner ring;elements of rail accessibility and functional diversity are broken In addition to the restrictions of Chongqing ’s terrain, some new urban areas outside the inner ring also exhibit strong high-value aggregation characteristics.(3)POI density, surrounding population heat and floor area ratio have the most significant impact on the comprehensive vitality index of residential quarters. The spatial clustering characteristics of the POI density of residential districts and the thermal power of the surrounding population have a high spatial overlap,so that the spatial clustering characteristics of the external environmental vitality, humanistic environmental vitality and comprehensive vitality index of the residential districts also show a strong spatial overlap Togetherness. Moreover, the comprehensive vitality index of residential districts has a significant "multi-center" and "step-wise decreasing" spatial distribution characteristics.(4)The comprehensive vitality index of residential quarters has a medium-strength negative correlation with the building age and a very weak negative correlation with house prices. The case verification of ten "dual-aggregation" areas shows that the results of this residential community vitality study are quite reliable. In summary, this paper uses multi-source big data to study and discuss the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of the residential community vitality and the internal mechanism with other factors from the two dimensions of single factor evaluation and index comprehensive evaluation, which is the core of the inner circle of the city. The urban renewal of the district and the surrounding old urban areas and the urban development of the inner and outer urban new districts provide useful policy suggestions and have certain reference value for the planning and layout of urban living spaces.
