Buddhist temples are spiritual places for monks and donor groups to practice. The success of these buildings requires not only Buddhist symbolic structures or historical relics, but also the need to create a Buddhist architectural space with a Zen connotation in a limited space,so that the monks are integrated into the spirit and environment in the practice space.Based on this kind of prayer for the construction with Buddhist spatial atmosphere, the author tries to explore how use the modern spatial combination theory to build the symbol of Buddhist spiritual architectural with atmosphere and environmental.By studying the design method of spatial organization and the construction concept of space imagine, this paper integrates a new form of spatial organization is that assimilates the image construction concept into the building and landscape spatial design, that is,the Spatial Organization of Image. And according to the needs of modern construction in Buddhist temples, the author confirms that this methodology is suitable for the design of modern Buddhist temples’ environment design. After clarifying the design form of this subject research, the author studies the spatial organization form and spiritual atmosphere creation of relevant Buddhist temples both at home and abroad, also summarizes the design ideas and spatial creation methods of modern Buddhist temples’environment design. This paper is based on the Ten Square Yunnan Temple in Ningbo, which is a Pure-Land School following the teachings of cause and effect, natural pathology,non-finance and prosperity, the realm of Buddhism, and harmony between heaven and earth which provides an important spiritual place creation concept for this design. This project design tries to use the theoretical support of the combination of architectural aesthetics, environmental aesthetics and space to break the constraints of conventional architectural forms. The design uses Buddhist octagonal reincarnation in the design plane, showing a trend of all directions. The existing terrain height difference is used in the vertical direction to break the boundary between architecture and environment, creating a Buddhist heaven and earth reincarnation mood which is the Meditation space included looking up at the sky, exploring the valley, and passing through water. The Bell and Drum Tower,as landmark buildings,is applied with modern symbolic techniques through the form of Buddhist "卍" and gather palms(Namaste)to create symbolic spiritual buildings with conspicuous shape.Based on the practice design links and theoretical research of the Ten Square Yunnan Temple in Ningbo, this paper does practical research on the environmental design of how to build the spirit of the Buddhist environment in the construction of current Buddhist temples. This paper starts from the environmental design of contemporary Buddhist monasteries, and then proposes the spatial combination design method of Buddhist monastery environmental design. The spatial combination design method includes four directions which are spatial shape, construction of image space, functional requirements, and humanistic spirit. This theoretical method not only covers the basic construction requirements and functions of Buddhist monasteries, but also enhances the manifestation of the Buddhist spiritual perception space. At present, the domestic and foreign researches on this topic are still at the surface stage, and also, the perception of the Buddhist spirit is subjective and different from person to person.Hoping that based on this paper,in the future the environmental design methods related to Buddhist temple spatial combination will gradually improve relying on cross-disciplinary research and more future practical design applications.
