Comfortable and pleasant street walking space has always been one of the goals of people’s outdoor life,and its design method is also continuously satisfying the psychological and physiological habits of the crowd.However,the current street design is still the "vehicle-based" design mode,which focuses on the traffic efficiency of street vehicles and ignores the emotional needs of people walking.Therefore,this paper studies the spatial environment characteristics of street walking from the perspective of people’s emotional needs,so as to improve the street quality and promote people’s willingness to walk.Existing studies at home and abroad focus more on theory,while in reality,the impact of street material environment on people is complex,which easily leads to the disconnection between the design of street walking space and pedestrian experience.Based on the emotional needs of the crowd,this paper discusses the concept,components,design characteristics and construction methods of the pedestrian space of urban living streets,and further explores the potential coupling relationship between the pedestrian space environment of living streets and the needs of the crowd.In this paper,the characteristics of street space,relevant theories and evaluation methods based on crowd emotion are analyzed to improve the walking space of biologically active streets.This paper mainly studies the pedestrian space of 9 living streets in the main city of Nanning,discusses the coupling degree between the material environment and the crowd emotion in the pedestrian space,and constructs the coupling evaluation system of "space-emotion".Firstly,the research on the pedestrian space of living streets and the emotional needs of people at home and abroad is sorted out,and the independent and dependent variables of the evaluation system are screened out.Then,through questionnaire survey,interview and other methods to obtain pedestrian emotional data,the use of remote sensing image map,street map and site survey methods to obtain street material environment data,and preliminary comparative analysis of the case street physical environment characteristics;finally,correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were used in SPSS to obtain the street material environment factors affecting the emotional state of the crowd,thus concluding the coupling degree between the crowd emotion and the street material environment,and proposing 7 optimization strategies for the pedestrian space design of urban living streets that meet the emotional needs of the crowd.The coupling mechanism between the emotional demand of walking and the physical environment of walking space was analyzed.This paper summarizes which kind of street material environment has positive effect on crowd emotion and which kind has negative effect on crowd emotion,and proposes seven design strategies of street walking space to meet crowd emotion demand,and then provides scientific optimization design strategies for streets with different problems.(1)Building-oriented,supplemented by greenery to create enclosed spaces.(2)Rich formats,diverse greening,and dotted facilities to create complex streets.(3)Ecological planting,rich in layers and creating a sense of nature.(4)Optimize facilities,increase street eyes,and improve sense of security.(5)Reasonable layout,increase permeability and enhance comfort.(6)"Activate" space and enhance street interest.(7)Respect living habits,promote communication among people and create a sense ofbelonging.
