| In every era, human beings have a specific fantasy about the future world, which is based on realistic experiences but transcends perceptions of reality.Benefiting from the rapid development of virtual modeling technology, science fiction movies since the 20th century have broadened the way of expression of architectural space visual ly,and become the forefront of predicting future architectures. The architectural space in science fiction films have not only provided a place for the film plot, but also been closely related to social changes, major historical events and the emergence of new architectural trends.Additionally, the wild imaginations of the architects have also been presented on the screen due to direct participations. The free fantasy space, architecture and city in these film images deserve a place in the history of architecture. This paper explored the evolution and variation of the space form in science fiction films from the perspectives of architectural history and culture.Six classic works from three periods(Metropolis,2001:A Space Odyssey,Blade Runner,The Fifth Element,Tron:Legacy,Blade Runner2049),as the main research object, were combined with film theories and architectural research methods on basis of a large number of’ examples to analyze the urban space form and type of architectural space in science fiction films.Subsequently,in order to make a more intuitive and rational discussion, appropriate research frameworks were constructed and charts were made to correspond the image sources with the alternate architectural thoughts in the history one by one.Integrating the sci-fi films data through points-into-lines,this paper summarized three main sources of architectural expression and two laws of architectural evolution in sci-fi films. In addition, the measure of "coupling" was used to generalize the interactive relationship between architecture and science fiction films scenes at the design level from the process of initial generation to continuous evolution. From the cross-disciplinary standpoint, this paper explored the dynamic relationship between architecture and sci-fi space from multiple perspectives, revealed the recording function of sci-fi films on architectural history, and raised more inquiries about the contemplation of architectural space in later works. |
