In the 21st century,people’s life style and work mode changes significantly with the popularity of the knowledge-based economy and information networks.As the atypical working mode rises and dispersed,mobile and independent workers increase,traditional work environment cannot meet the newborn demand of the working space.Under this context,co-working space emerges as its low-cost,flexibility,creativity and emphasizing collaboration and sharing which corresponding to the new demand of office.Corresponding with the current national policy of encouraging people to start their own business and encouraging mass innovations,co-working spaces will be a new platform for entrepreneurs and freelances.Co-working spaces develop and evolve at tremendous speed all around the world and draws the attention of scholars,practitioners,enterprises and policy-makers.Practices of co-working spaces in foreign countries are relatively mature,however,the theoretical research is at the initial stage,which covers many fields include economy,management and urban studies.In China,as a possible pattern of mass creation space,co-working space is just unfolding and the relevant theoretical research is blank.In the way,this thesis will make a systematic observation and research on domestic co-working spaces and take a case study of Beijing and Shanghai.The thesis firstly reviews the progress in the practice and research of domestic and international co-working spaces,then analyzes the transformation trends of urban working mode in the information era and studies the definition,origin,value of the co-working space.The main value of co-working space lays in its innovation,community,openness,mobility and sustainability,of which innovation and community are of the vital importance.Secondly this article conducts a survey on 17 co-working spaces in Beijing and Shanghai and does questionnaire surveys and semi-structured interviews with the managers and users.In this thesis co-working spaces is divided into three patterns,co-working space for start a business,for innovation and for commonweal.Based on the survey,the thesis analyzes the characteristics of space,the feature of administers and users,and the operation and management pattern.The characteristics of space includes the location,the external space and the internal space.The feature of administers and users includes their basic personal information and their motivation,expectation and experience in co-working spaces.The operation and management includes the target,operation pattern and external support.The thesis then focuses on the innovation and collaboration model which is based on co-work,and tries to explain how co-working promotes innovation and collaboration.The thesis adopts fours perspectives include space,mind,behavior and participant to study the innovation driving force and discus the interaction between them.In this research divides the cooperative mode is based on co-working into three patterns,namely cost-based cooperation,resource-based cooperation and community-based cooperation.Cost-based collaborative aims at reducing operating costs and transaction costs,and is at the most basic levels of collaboration.Resource-based cooperation aims at sharing knowledge and providing guidance and integration of resources.Community-based cooperation with the characteristics of a common vision,open networks and community autonomy is at the senior level of cooperation,and aims at promoting collaborative innovation.Finally,the paper discusses the significance and enlightenment of co-working space for urban development as a new type of innovative space.This paper also presents the main problem of the current co-working space and put forward the corresponding optimization suggestions and practical experience with western experiences.The whole thesis contains about 63 000 words,34 pictures and charts.
