Study On Fromm’s Environmental Thought And Its Contemporary Value

Since the industrial revolution in the 18 th century,the process of global modernization has been advancing vigorously,and people’s living standards have improved significantly.At the same time,environmental governance issues and ecological crises are spreading around the world.How to deal with the ecological crisis and strengthen the construction of ecological civilization has become the focus of common concern in China and the world.Academia has also conducted research on how to improve the relationship between man and nature from different fields,and formed different theoretical schools such as ecological modernization,ecological postmodernism,and ecological centralism.Most of them advocate technological innovation to change the world.Ecological Marxists,especially the Frankfurt School,are known for their technical critique theory.On this basis,Erich Fromm combined Marx’s ecological thought,Freud’s psychoanalytic theory,and environmental thought in the Jewish tradition.Combined to analyze the current ecological problems and form unique environmental ideas and theories.Firstly,Fromm takes people out of nature as a starting point and combines biblical myths to put forward the antithesis of human beings’ self-protection of existence and ambivalence,and then analyzes the original psychological origin of the inevitable conflict between man and nature.Secondly,the existence of heavy possession in the capitalist society leads to the phenomenon of alienation of consumption and the attitude of those in power to use nuclear weapons,forcing Fromm to introduce a psychological analysis of the reasons for the contradiction between man and nature.The cybernetic worship,evasion mechanism,and other judgments of the market character have hindered the harmonious coexistence between man and nature,and are the driving forces behind the current ecological and environmental crisis.Finally,Fromm innovated the environmental crisis solution,taking love of nature as an art to guide the relationship between man and nature,on the basis of transforming the consumption pattern of capitalist society,to play the role of education,carry out psychological changes,and build a sound Society to solve the current ecological and environmental crisis.This dissertation is guided by historical materialism,through examining the background and theoretical origins of Fromm’s environmental thoughts,combined with Fromm’s textual works,trying to systematically sort out and comprehensively grasp its environmental thoughts,and at the same time Thoughts make objective comments.Fromm’s exposition on the relationship between man and nature enriches and develops Marxist environmental ideas.While re-evaluating Judaism’s environmental outlook,it innovates environmental crisis solutions.However,Fromm’s environmental thinking takes humanism as the starting point,the analysis of“human” is not comprehensive enough,and he has illusions about the capitalist society.The reform measures do not involve fundamental social changes and are difficult to sink.In a word,Fromm ’s environmental thought not only enriched the development of Marxist environmental concept in theory,but also deepened the criticism of capitalist consumption concept,and also provided us with useful enlightenment to promote today ’s ecological civilization construction.
