Williams’ Ecological Marxism And Its Contemporary Value Research

Williams is a new generation of Ecological Marxist scholars in the United States.He inherits the theories of the previous generation of Ecological Marxist scholars,such as Burke and foster,and puts forward his own new theories according to the ecological crisis encountered by the contemporary western countries.He re explored whether the ecological crisis endangers the development of human society,whether there is a natural upper limit,summed up the success and failure of western countries in environmental issues,reviewed the setbacks and lessons in the ecological governance route of the Soviet Union,and looked forward to the direction of the future ecological movement,etc.his theory is to respond to the hot spots in the current ecological issues,and accordingly It inherits the world outlook and methodology implied in the former ecological Marxism.Williams’ s ecological Marxism,first of all,takes the global ecological crisis as the starting point,such as the global temperature rise and its harm,the worry of ecological degradation caused by overpopulation,etc.Secondly,Williams launched an ecological criticism on capitalist society.His criticism is mainly from two aspects:one is from the capitalist system,which he thinks is the root of the ecological crisis.Second,starting from the capitalist solution to the ecological crisis,he believes that the capitalist solution to the ecological crisis is false rather than sincere.Thirdly,Williams affirmed Marx’s view of ecology and believed that human beings should reconcile with nature,which is the view of Marx and Engels;it is not correct for western capitalism to attribute Marx to promethicism.Finally,Williams conceives the sustainable development of ecological socialism.He discussed this idea from two aspects: first,he proposed a green idea for the future society,that is,how to makethe future society more green and environmental protection.The second is to conceive the social ecological movement,that is,he intended to realize the world’s ecology through a way of human social movement.Williams’ Ecological Marxism has both important contemporary value and certain limitations.As far as its contemporary value is concerned,it broadens the theoretical dimension and practical significance of Marxist ecological outlook,promotes the new possibility of the development of Marxist ecological civilization in the 21 st century,and provides theoretical reference for the construction of socialist ecological civilization with Chinese characteristics in the new era.Although the solution to the ecological crisis proposed by Williams is only a theoretical conception,which is neither mature nor realistic.Limited by the social and historical conditions,Williams’ conception of ecological socialist society is not only of rich theoretical value to the global ecological politics,ecological social justice,sustainable environmental protection society,etc.,but also of deep-seated significance in exploring the ecological crisis The reasons,the exploration of the basic development direction of ecological socialism,the construction of ecological society,and the governance of global ecological crisis have detailed practical wisdom and rich practical significance.In terms of its limitations,the author believes that Williams’ Ecological Marxism has the color of green Utopia to a certain extent,and the systematic construction of its theory is also insufficient.In a word,Williams’ Ecological Marxism is very important for us to grasp ecological justice and re understand the position of human in nature.But it also needs to be pointed out that his theory still has some limitations,such as vague theoretical argument,insufficient construction and Utopian color,which need our attention.
