China has long been known as “the country of the crown”.Head ornaments play a significant role in Chinese costume culture.In recent years,with the development of globalization,there appears a rapid growth of the cross-cultural communication between East and West.Chinese clothing has gained more and more international attention,and the translation of Chinese clothing has attracted more academic interest.It’s worth exploring how to translate the head ornaments featuring Chinese translation culture and how to spread Chinese traditional culture of head ornaments to overseas readers in the background of our country’s cultural strategy of “going global”.Taking Skopos Theory as analyzing framework,this thesis explores the translation strategies of Chinese traditional head ornaments into English on the basis of the selected parts of Chinese ancient female “head ornaments” from the following three translated books: Ancient Costumes and Accessories edited by Shen Zhou,Accessories Wore by Ancient Chinese edited by Qi Linlin and Chinese Traditional Costumes and Ornaments edited by Zang Yingchun.This thesis uses a qualitative method and example analysis to explore translation strategies of head ornaments under the three rules of Skopos Theory,namely the skopos rule,the coherence rule and the fidelity principle.The research is expected to display Chinese traditional culture in the practice of head ornaments translation,and enhance cross-cultural communication of traditional Chinese head ornaments. |
