In the process of clothing design, the concept of "zero-waste" cutting is to maximize the utilization of a whole piece of fabric when designing a pattern, reaching almost zero-waste of the fabric and in line with clothing aesthetics. This article combines domestic and foreign research results to analyze representative "zero-waste" cloth-cuttings,analyzes the development process of the conversion from straight cutting to curve cutting in modern zero-waste pattern, and summarizes the various methods of zero-waste cutting of modern designers.Besides,it experiments with a variety of design methods of creative three-dimensional cutting, pursuing a dynamic and open clothing structure. Most modern zero-waste pattern cutting is still on the stage of straight cutting.Considering a closer relationship between the curve cutting and human body, the experiments of this article mainly apply curve on the pattern and structure of clothing to make zero-waste clothes and to explore the application of the formation of curves in modern zero-waste cutting pattern design. In the experiment, beyond the stylized clothing design process which starts with drawing sketches, cloth is directly hung on the table for observation and adjustment. The combination of flat cutting and three-dimensional cutting techniques makes the patterns and styles of clothing more unexpected. It is completely possible to design a zero-waste pattern with a curved structure. The application of the curve can not only combine with the human body’s structure, but also show the designer’s attitude and pursuit for the beauty of soft shapes.Researching zero-waste cutting technology can not only promote the development of sustainable fashion theory that reduces waste, but also bring unique creative thinking in design methods.
