The Application Of Calligraphy Art In Fashion Design

Calligraphy is generally known as the treasure of Chinese traditional culture,and it has already developed from the practical tool used to record words at the beginning to a form of art which is rich in formal beauty and connotation.In terms of the artistic characteristics of calligraphy,they are mainly shown by the structure of strokes possessed by Chinese characters and the patterns of line layout.The research carried out by starting from the structure and patterns of calligraphy can help us to conduct comprehensive and thorough analysis on the essence of calligraphy.With regard to the art of clothing,structure is also regarded as the key in determining its artistic form.This paper firstly analyses the characteristics of structure and pattern shown by the calligraphy works created by different calligraphers under different fonts through the study on the literature related to calligraphy.Combining with the comparative analysis on the art of clothing,this paper launches an in-depth discussion on the possibility of applying the structure and rhythm of calligraphy art in clothing design.Moreover,with the calligraphy works created by Zhu Da as an example,this paper aims to find the commonality between the structure of calligraphy and clothing structure by the analysis on the strokes,lines,gestures,charm,etc.of calligraphy.Through the research and study on Yamamoto's clothing works,the structure of calligraphy is transformed into a form of expression which is in line with the clothing language from the viewpoints of design aesthetics,as well as the composition of plane and space.Moreover,the horizontal and vertical strokes of calligraphy are compared with the structures of shoulder,collar,sleeve and waist of clothing,and the outline of Chinese characters is integrated with the outline of clothing,for the purpose of applying the charm and rhythm of calligraphy to clothing design so as to form a clothing style which is filled with oriental aesthetic significance.Apart from that,this paper also makes comparison and launches discussion on the commonness and correlation between the art of calligraphy and clothing art from the angles of aesthetics and oriental philosophy,and conducts association and comparison for the calligraphy form of cursive script and regular script with the philosophical thought of Confucianism and Taoism.Additionally,this paper further expoundsthe internal relationship between these two different forms of art,and thus it provides more thinking and inspiration for us to integrate the art of calligraphy with the art of clothing.Moreover,the integration between the art of calligraphy and clothing design can provide our design and artistic creation with inspiration.More importantly,we are required to create a new form which can benefit the inheritance and development of traditional art in the contemporary society,which conforms to the contemporary trend and people's aesthetic consciousness,by employing modern and innovative ways.At the same time of breaking through the limitations of the original art form,we cannot ignore its real core artistic value and national heritage,so as to truly realize the innovation,diversity,sustainable development and inheritance of traditional art in contemporary society.
