With the acceleration of economic globalization,more and more enterprises start to operate transnationally.In order to ensure the consistency of the core technology and management concept,more and more managers in the headquarters are sent to the overseas branches of enterprises on management roles.Due to the limitations of its domestic market and resources,a big amount of Korean companies set their eyes on the China market where there is infinite potential for development and growth.Thus those Korean companies start setting up branch in China for local production and business operations.However,due to the cultural differences between the two countries and the different values companies possess,those Korean leaders on expatriate assignments in China face with various difficulties and challenges,say,the disagreement with each other's culture,the high turnover rate of local subordinates,the drop in performance,etc.All of these have a huge impact and even threat on achieving company's strategic business objectives into China market.Taking that it is merely possible to eliminate the expatriate roles on critical technical and management tasks,to improve the effectiveness of expatriate leaders is one the burning issues for these companies to solve.This essay takes the Korean No.1 steel manufacturing P company China branches as the research object,by doing one-on-one interviews and questionnaires in its most populated branches in Beijing,Shanghai,Zhangjiagang and Qingdao,from the respective perspectives of the company,the expatriate leaders,and their Chinese followers,the study tries to understand the difficulties and problems the expatriate leaders have now;and on the basis of data analysis,the study tries to understand the impact that cultural differences and leadership effectiveness will cast on their team creativity,team performance,team atmosphere and the followers' trust in their leaders.And finally the study summaries the most effective leadership models in the China branches of P Company.The study provides practical suggestions on future selection of expatriate leaders for P Company in China,as well as on how to improve the effectiveness of those expatriates' leadership,and could also be considered as valuable reference for other related or similar Korean expatriate leaders in China market.
