A Study On Historical Materials Of Science And Technology From The Book Of Ge Wu Cu Tan And Wu Lei Xiang Gan Zhi

"Ge Wu Cu Tan" and "Wu Lei Xiang Gan Zhi"(one volume,the same below)are two widely circulated life encyclopedias in ancient China,both of which are said to be written by Su Shi,and the contents of the them are quite similar.The book is rich in information about plants and animals,agriculture,life techniques and so on.Some content about legends,divination and daily taboos are also recorded in Ge Wu Cu Tan.It is a representative work that shows the society and life style of the ancients at that time.In the first chapter,the author introduces the contents of the two books.compared "Ge Wu Cu Tan" with "Wu Lei Xiang Gan Zhi".The author develop the idea about their forming time and the compiler of two books on the basis of previous studies.In the second chapter,the author analyses two typical historical materials about chemistry and physics in two books,specifically included the content about metalwork,protection technology,the ancients of alum substance use,grasp of the different decontamination,cleaning methods,hard softening method,the use of magnetic force and buoyancy,freezing point reduction and other relevant history materials.If what is said in the book is accord with the scientific knowledge,it indicates that these items are more likely to come from life and production practice.If not,the entries may either not be from practice or may be a misconception of practical experience.In the third chapter,the author makes a detailed summary and arrangement of the historical materials of biology and agriculture in "Ge Wu Cu Tan".The life habits of animals,grafting technology of plants,agricultural pest control and so on described in the book are introduced in detail,and the methods of food preservation are analyzed.At last,some important historical materials of biology and agriculture recorded in "Wu Lei Xiang Gan Zhi" the book are introduced.In the fourth chapter,the author analyzes the customs and misinformation recorded in the two books.The contents of the two books are not all empirical records,and there are also some limitations of the ancients under the influence of the cultural environment at that time.The author summarizes and analyzes such items.In the fifth chapter,based on the above understanding of the two books,the author discusses the ancient scientific thoughts contained in them.Through the classification,investigation and analysis of the full text,the author has formed a relatively clear academic interpretation of the writing intention of ancient Chinese natural history works,including the source of knowledge and other issues,which is helpful for us to learn and understand the ancient traditional culture.
