Mazaceae is a family in Lamiales proposed by Reveal in 2011,including Puchiumazus Bo Li,D.G.Zhang & C.L.Xiang,Lancea Hook.f.et Thoms.,Dodartia L.and Mazus Lour. This family is mainly distributed in Eurasia and Oceania.Because of the similar morphology of Mazaceae, especially for the species of Mazus with large variations, there are very few taxonomic characters available. The classification of this taxa has always been a taxonomic problem. On the basis of more than 6000 specimens collected in the herbarium, this study carried out full field investigation and morphological research, and comprehensively evaluated the variation range and taxonomic value of each character. Our results showed that plant height, hair, erect stem, stolon, arrangement of leaves, leaf size, leaf texture, leaf color, leaf margin, petiole length, peduncle length, corolla color, corolla tube length, corolla lips and ovary were effective in specific classification of this family.Furthermore, the morphology of calyxtooth had crucial reference value for the species division of Mazus. The species of Mazaceae descriptions were improved via examination of specimens and field works.Species distributions were updated and mapped based on existing data.In addition, the keys of genus and species were provided.Ultimately,35 species and 3 variants were confirmed in the Mazaceae in the world.Five species were uncertain, due to the lack of materials. The details are as follows: 1)M.japonicus var.leucanthus X.D.Dong et J.H.Li,M.pumilus var.macrocalyx(Bonati)T.Yamazaki,M.goodenifolius(Hornem.)Pennell reduced to synonyms of M.pumilus(Burm.f.)Steenis.2)Two new combinations were proposed,M.pumilus var.fukienensis(Tsoong)Z.Y.Lv & T.Deng and M.omeiensis var.neriifolius(H.L.Li)Z.Y.Lv & T.Deng comb.nov.3)A resurrection of M.wangii H.L.Li.4)M.tainanensis C.X.Xie reduced to a synonym of M.miquelii Makino.5)The five suspicious species were M.cavaleriei Bonati,M.macranthus Diels,M.reptans N.E.Br.,M.wanmuliensis M.Qian et L.B.Geng and M.apicaliracemosus X.H.Guo,X.P.Zhang et J.L.Xu.
