Taxonomic Revision Of The Acanthaceae From Hainan Province

Acanthaceae is a big family which mainly distributes in tropical regions. There are many genus and species in this family and they are widespread. They have complex life forms and various habitat. Their vegetative and reproductive organs are different obviously and diverse. They have been considered to be one of families which are hard to research on for a long time. The researchers put forward different categorizing systems on different morphological characteristics.Based on the field investigation and specimen collection and identification, introduction and cultivation, seed collection, consult herbarium specimens and literature data, taxonomic revision of Acanthaceae plant species in Hainan Island, the author has following results:(1) Adopting the broadest concept of Strobilanthes Blume s.l. and Justicia Linn., the author has recognized30genus,85species, one subspecies (8genus and19species introduced) and7endemic species from Hainan Island. Apart from this,the author has clarified some species of taxonomy.(2) The author found Justicia glabra K.D. Koenig ex Roxb., a newly recorded species from China, and Staurogyne chapaensis R.Ben.and Rungia chinensis Benth., Two newly reported species from Hainan Island.(3) It's a fact that there is one species in Leptostachya Nees, Leptostachya wallichii Nees. The author has found that Leptostachya wallichii Nees has three types of plants in Hainan according the field study and corrected one misidentified species, Strobilanthes longzhouensis H. S. Lo&D. Fang, which is Strobilanthes cystolithigera Lindau actually. Thunbergia hainanensis a independent species.(4) The plants of Acanthaceae in Hainan can be divided into5areal-types and3subtypes. There are9genus(30.00%) in tropical Asia areal-type and its subtypes and8genus(26.67%) in Pantropic type. There are30genus in the tropical distribution in Hainan and their tropical nature is very significant.(5) Researching on the Seed morphology of63species from22genus of Acanthaceae in Hainan by light microscope comparatively, the author found that the seeds were richly diverse in shape and surface omamentation.The seeds morphology of Acanthaceae in Hainan can be divided into two classes and12sub-types.(6) Researching on the leaves of66species from23genus of Acanthaceae in Hainan by Digital SLR cameras, It was shown that leaf morphology has richly variation and diversity, on the basis of leaf shape, the author has divided the plants of Acanthaceae in Hainan into two classes and6sub-types through the leaf margin, leaf base, leaf vein features, the leaf morphology and listed the key.
