With the rapid development of globalization, the links between the nations of the world are getting closer and closer. The importance of the ocean in the communication of the international community has become more and more prominent, and the human society has begun to enter the era of the ocean. In the century of the ocean, the prosperity and progress of human civilization are closely related to the ocean, ocean resources are gifts of nature and continue to help the development of human civilization in the era of land resources being depleted. The ocean economy is an integral part of the global economy, the ocean is not only the important barrier to national security but a source of security threats and the situation of the marine ecological environment is even more closely related to survival and development of all mankind. In short, human civilization should live in harmony with the ocean. Both Indonesia and Australia are major marine powers in the "Indian Ocean-Pacific"region.Indonesia is the world's largest archipelago country and Australia is the only country in the world that monopolizes a continent surrounded by the sea.The two countries are each other's largest neighbor, and both regard maritime development as a national-level strategy. In other words, the two countries have extensive common interests in the marine field. The history of ocean cooperation between Indonesia and Australia has a long history, accompanied by the development of relations between the two countries.Especially after president Joko Widodo came to power, the maritime cooperation between the two countries faced new situation where opportunities and challenges coexist. This thesis intends to comprehensively study the ocean cooperation between Indonesia and Australia, explore the background of the cooperation, summarize what they have achieved in the past years and describe characteristics of their cooperation. On this basis,it analyzes problems and dilemma the two countries are facing in the nowadays and try to give some resolutions.Particularly, the thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter mainly includes background analysis on the ocean cooperation between Indonesia and Australia.Similar ocean geopolitics, connection of national development strategies and the promotion of global and regional ocean governance status constitute the driving force for the two countries to carry out ocean cooperation. The second chapter mainly summaries the content and characteristics of the maritime cooperation between Indonesia and Australia. After the Second World War,the two countries have carried out successful cooperation in the fields of marine security, marine economy, marine ecology and environmental protection. The scope of marine cooperation is constantly expanding and deepening, however, substantive results are still limited.Based on this, the third chapter analyzes the practical dilemma of the maritime cooperation between the two countries and give some resolutions.Lacking of strategic mutual trust is the biggest obstacle between the two countries, complex domestic and international situations have also shown extraordinary energy in the development of the maritime cooperation. In view of this,in the future maritime cooperation, the two countries should focus on solving mutual strategic suspicions, strengthen maritime humanistic communications and improve the maritime cooperation mechanism, finally promote the development of the overall national relations and actively build the "Indian Ocean-Pacific" regional community of shared future.
