The Preliminary Study Of The Genus Rinodina Lichens In China

The genus Rinodina(Physciaceae,Caliciales)was founded by Gray in 1821.More than 300 species have been reported worldwide,45 species and 3 forms have been reported in China.It can occurring on rock,bark,mosses,soil or debris,which is characterized by a crustose thallus,mostly lecanorine apothecia,rarely lecideine or biatorine apothecia,brown or black discs,occasionally pruinose;a hyaline hymenium,a red-brown or rarely a blue-grey epihymenium,a hyaline or lightly brown hypothecium;clavate asci,and brown,colorless immature ascospores and brown mature ascospores,primarily 1-septate,rarely 3-septate to submuriform ascospores with unequally thickened walls.In this study,more than 400 specimens of the Rinodina lichens from 14 provinces of Heilongjiang,Jilin,Liaoning,Inner Mongolia,Xinjiang,Gansu,Qinghai,Ningxia,Shaanxi,Beijing,Hebei,Shandong,Hubei,Yunnan.The specimens are preserved in the Herbarium of Shandong Normal University(SDNU),the Herbarium Mycologicum Academiae Sinicae(HMAS-L)and the Kunming Institute of Botany,Chinese Academy of Science(KUN).These specimens are made a detailed taxonomic study.Traditional taxonomic methods were used to observe and study the external morphological characteristics of lichens and the internal anatomical characteristics of discs;color test and thin-layer chromatography were used to analyze the presence or absence of secondary metabolites of lichens;the distribution of reported Rinodina lichens in China was determined by literature review and study of the distribution of specimens,and we also estimated that some species of Rinodina lichens may exist in China.During the comprehensive analysis of the morphology,anatomy and chemistry on the specimens from China,we found 28 species: Rinodina ascociscana,R.bohinii,R.bohlinii f.lignicola,R.bolanderi,R.castanomela,R.castanomelodes,R.excrescens,R.freyi,R.globulans,R.handeii,R.intermedia,R.metaboliza,R.mniaraea,R.mongolica,R.oleae,R.orculata,R.orientalis,R.oxydata,R.pycnocarpa,R.pyrina,R.roscida,R.septentrionalis,R.straussii,R.subminuta,R.subnigra,R.subleprosula,R.superposita,R.terrestris,R.trevisanii and R.turfacea;of which 12 species are new to China: R.ascociscana,R.bolanderi,R.excrescens,R.freyi,R.intermedia,R.metaboliza,R.oleae,R.orculata,R.orientalis,R.septentrionalis,R.subminuta and R.trevisanii.A new record species to mainland China: R.pyrina.This study is the first comprehensive report on the species composition and location distribution of the Rinodina genus in China.A total of 12 new recorded species to China and 1 new recorded species to mainland China were found,enriched the species composition of lichens of the genus Rinodina in China.The main identifying feature pictures of the Rinodina lichens and the pictures of newly recorded species in China,a new record species to mainland China were provided,it provides data for the identification and further study of lichens of the Rinodina genus in China;In this paper,a key to the species of the Rinodina genus in China is provided,and the similar species are discussed.
