Abstract/Summary:
This thesis addresses the issue of route recovery in dynamic routing protocols in Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs), using multi-beam directional antennas. Existing wireless ad-hoc routing protocols solve the issue of link break through route re-discovery. In this thesis, we study the limitations of this strategy and propose an enhancement to locally repair the broken routes. The proposed enhancement assumes Bi-directional Routing Ad-hoc On demand Multipath Distance Vector (BR-AOMDV) routing protocol, which is a variation of the AOMDV protocol. The main advantages of the proposed Local Route Repair (LRR) strategy are the quick repair of the broken links. We have implemented the LRR on top of BR-AOMDV, with a MAC protocol to support multi-beam directional antennas. Our results show that with LRR strategy, the packet delivery ratio is comparable to the ideal scenario with no link breaks. On the contrary, using traditional route re-discovery approach yields packet delivery ratio much lower in comparison with the LRR strategy.
