Abstract/Summary:
Many statistical software packages are being widely used by nonstatisticians to perform data analysis. These packages, although quite powerful, are somewhat limited by the fact that they provide no guidance on which analyses to conduct and how to interpret the results, and require considerable statistical knowledge from the user in order to use them correctly and effectively.;This thesis project involves the development and implementation of an expert system which can guide the user to an appropriate statistical technique for systematically analyzing the data. The system also directs the user to the appropriate statistical package to perform the suggested analysis. The expert system was developed on the IBM PS/2 Model 50, and written in C language.;It is expected that this expert system will aid both the specialist and non-specialist by giving advice on data analysis according to the rules held within. Also, this application will give insight into the potential of expert systems for statistical data analysis.
