Abstract/Summary:
Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) is used for manufacturing of precision parts tirelessly with repeated accuracy. It has been accepted by the industries today as an approach to increase the production within a shorter time period, to achieve better accuracy and also reduce the manufacturing cost compared to the manual production. A CIM system normally consists of robot arms which load and unload parts, a conveyor which routes the parts to the required stations, machining centers, storage or retrieval stations and CNC machines. This thesis presents an experimental solution to interfacing a CNC machine into a Mini Computer Integrated Manufacturing system and explains the different aspects of programming, teaching and interfacing the whole system.
