Abstract/Summary:
The Problem. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between strategic alliance success factors and business performances.; Method. A descriptive-correlational method was employed, and 223 senior executives of U.S. and Thai diversified firms were administered questionnaires. Factor analyses, Pearson's correlation coefficients, stepwise regression analyses, and uncorrelated student t-tests were utilized to statistically analyze the data.; Results. Six hypotheses which examined the relationships between strategic alliance attributes and business performances were partially supported; three hypotheses which examined the relationships between communication attributes and business performances were supported; and four hypotheses which examined the relationships between conflict resolution techniques and business performances were partially supported.; Correlation coefficients were statistically significant at the.05 level. Hypothesis 15 examined the relative importance of strategic alliance success factors in predicting business performances and was partially supported.; Beta coefficients were statistically significant at the.05 level. Hypothesis 16 examined the mean differences between U.S. and Thai diversified firms in terms of strategic alliance success factors and was supported.; Uncorrelated students' t-test mean differences were statistically significant at the.05 level. Factor analyses, which employed a principal component analysis method and an orthogonal rotation method through Varimax criterion, addressed five underlying factors--decisive style, compatibility, commitment to performances, harsh word techniques, and common solving techniques--based upon eigenvalue (greater than or equal to 1) and factor loading (greater than.60). Finally, Cronbach's alpha coefficients were identified and supported the present study.
